Not a Chrysler, but looks to be a fine delivery

Hi all, Been wrapped up with life, the universe (and home, family and work) and everything for a bit, but had a great opportunity come my way and jumped at it. Heading out Thursday early AM for Victoria, BC, to crew on a delivery of a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS to San Francisco. This will the furthe...

I feel bad for the experience you had with them. It's a good thing that you shared it. Having to shop for a new loft for Destiny's sails really sucks. Much more comforting to do that with a relatively inexpensive set of sails. Really hope you find one with quality product AND reliable delivery this ...

Scott, I'm really, really sorry to hear you've had another problem with FXSails. I think you were quite generous in giving them a second shot after your first experience, and obviously you've been bitten twice. Their loss, on several levels, for blowing that second chance to shine. Back in my jeepin...

New Year's Day is our club's Frostbite Race, and that plus other stuff I have on the plate means no road trip for me. Enjoy!

Conversely, anyone who wants to travel to Watauga Lake for New Year's Day can probably race. Watauga Lake Sailing Club is rather accommodating!

I don't have any reference books handy at work, but Ivan Dedekam has one on sail trim and rig tuning that I like. Also have something at home from Selden masts, recommended to me by Brion Toss, and a bunch of notes from various sites. I carry more tension than most other boats at our dock, the excep...

Jeff's Windward is well loved, well sailed, well used and at this point pretty well scratched. I appreciate the compliment, but she's a workin' girl, and would rather kick her shoes off and dance than have her nails done. You have your priorities lined up well, my friend!

Believe it's called a reef jackline, and it permits the sail to reef smoothly without pinching the cloth and with the new tack pulled all the way down rather than wedged up the track above the other slugs.

Another question: Do they need to cut the radius on this stuff with a plasma cutter or what? Is there a thickness of stainless beyond which the labor costs for cutting/shaping become prohibitive, or is that thickness well beyond the 1/4" we're talking here?

Sauerleigh, that's great info. Is there an immersion duration after which I should use 316? I still haven't discounted the possibility of keeping Windward on the coast for a while, so don't want to save a small %$ but lose out in the long run. I already had the 1/4" reinforcement added across t...

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I found a cruddy Visio-based diagram I'd previously done that also had that dimension, so I'm taking that as confirmation. Materials alone on this little jewel are going to be at least 5 Benjies  so trying to avoid mi$-steps.

Length of C26 rudder shaft?

Back from Pamlico Sound and the Outer Banks of NC. Great time, wonderful weather, cooperative breeze, few mosquitoes, and unfortunately a rudder that is once again compromised. Stress risers from the numerous repairs seem to predispose the cheek plates to cracking, and rather than continue to bleed ...

Entropy and a series of related and unrelated events finally surmounted, I'm throwing clothes in a duffel, adjusting tongue weight on the trailer and taking Windward for a week of sailing on Pamlico Sound / Outer Banks. Cheers!

I tow Windward from NE Tennessee to the Outer Banks on a borrowed trailer with a 2006 standard bed, super cab F150 5.4L, 4wd with 3.73s. Not sure what the all-up weight is for Windward, gear and trailer, but I'd guess it's 8000-8500 pounds. It struggles coming up 421 into Boone, and on 105 past Boon...

He may have Alpha, the boat that I had thought was Dave Larson's. Try http://www.cambridge.k12.mn.us/~larsond/woods2002.htm.

<<edit>> Just looked, and I think it may be. If so, it's a well-loved, well-used, and almost certainly well-cared for boat with much history.
