c26 Trailering etc.

Hi Everyone - My parents are looking at a c26 and thinking of moving from a keelboat to a trailerable boat. I'm posting this general question on their behalf ... We're concerned about the act of trailering - do you have any general bits of advice particular to the C26. Also, how reasonable is it for...

Just an update on the hum with my spectra line ... it hums when I approach 8mph on the GPS. I think that's something like 5-6 knots.

Jeeezly loud too!

ha ha - nice to have that screaming away as you're bearing down on someone :)

Hey Chad I'm not sure if this applies, but check to see if there's a small line stiched into the foot of your genoa. Some sails have this for "bellying" the sail in light winds. It could be that it has been pulled tightand stuck there. It's also VERY possible that the sail is somehow the w...

I'm curious where your potty is ...

Smiley came with not head, but I got a porat potty and strapped it in dead center under the aft part of the bow bunk. This leaves a space on the port side that is somewhat useless right now ... Is this the space you're talking about ?

thanks

Hi mga1951; I don't have a dog now, but my parents have sailed with one (well, several different ones) almost all their lives. I think it all depends on the dog, but i never heard of one jumping overboard, their sense of self-preservation is better than that. I remember most of them prefered to be &...

Smiley was named when I bought him. I might have considered a change but I really liked the smiley-face graphic on the bows and transom. I did, however, take part in a re-naming ceremony of my parents' boat a few years ago. They bought a Roberts 25 named "Pitou" but wanted to rename it. Th...

Hi Banshi; check this site: http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/ Click on the "How Two" tab and scroll to "how to repair your rudder assembly" (or somehting like that). There are diagrams ... Basically, though, you have two lines, attached to different points on the "inside&q...

Hi Bob -

Welcome to the site! I'm a reasonably new member (and new c22 owner) and this place has been a great source of info and advice.

Are you in the water yet ?

Cheers and Happy Sailing

HI ! Ah, the bottle talks again! ha ha! Whatever the rum, my suggestion is to make yourself a list of priorities (subject to change of COURSE!). The goal should be getting the boat in the water and haviong some fun, so I'd say focus on rudder and mast. The, presuming you have sails that fit the sawe...

Hey Leeway -

As I understand it, the hull number you need is "gouged" into the hull on the transom, not on a metal plate. On my c22 it's near the metal plate and the number is somewhat similar.

Cheers!

Hi Everyone; I know this is a stale-dated post, but I thought I'd revive it in lieu of starting a new one. I would be interested as well in recommendations for used/new sail shops. Smiley has the original Vector sails from 1975. I have a genoa and roller-furler to install one day soon, but will be l...

Hey Gus; Good point abou the water. I haven't noticed anything wet yet, perhaps the spectra dowesn't absorb much water. OR, maybe I'm just so psyched to be sailing that I'm oblivious! RKatz - I tied with a bowline and haven't heard any keel hum at all. I was out yesterday and was doing 5.5 mph accor...

Here's a point form description of my first couple as a real boat owner at my new club. This kind of stuff is probably lame for you guys, but we all like to share our adventures! Hi R.Katz; I bought Smiley on land and he had a length of 3/8" (I think) nylon line knotted onto a shackle on the keel. The line was suspicious and old looking so I decided right away to replace it. Upon the advice of a handy boat-shop person, I went with spectra to replace the line. I was able...

Hi Jeff - Thanks a million for the detailed instructions. I will do the wiring of my new boat in a couple of weeks and will want to install my new Hummingbird 215 as well. The "lake" here isn't very deep in most spots so it would be good to have a little help besides my chart. Happy sailin...

Hi - When my c22 was on its cradle, I was able to shake the keel back and forth by hand. I *think* this is normal play. I'd say if you don't have water coming in around the keel bolt then you're probably okay. I'm assuming that the c26 and c22 have similar configurations ? Watch out for those rocks!...

Salut Guillaume!

I'm curious about attaching to the keel ... did you have to go underwater for that?

I changed my "cable" and winch before launching, hopefully both will survive the summer.

Happy Sailing.

Hey Gus; No, not a fixed keel. In my avatar pic the swing keel is about 3/4 of the way down and resting on the cradle. The trailer in the picture is the "yard trailer" at the RStLYC where I bought the boat. Here are some more pics on photobucket - I stole that idea from Patrick. Merci Patr...

Smiley is In the Water !

Hi Everyone - Well, after a couple of weeks of elbow grease, spending, and sweat Smiley is in the water.
