I opt for as large an anchor as I can reasonably handle. I forget how large mine is on my 26', but 5 pounds sounds very light. For chain, I go with boat length in feet. If you only have four feet of chain, that is part of your problem. The chain is critical for keeping the pull on your anchor horizo...

The forward shroud must not be connected when raising/lowering. The middle and rear shrouds are fine. I just slacked the turnbuckle enough to make removing the pin easy. Then re-tightened it when done.

Hard to tell from the picts,, but it may have popped out because the pivot point on the bridles looks lower and aft from the mast base pivot point. That and the red straps pulling it aft a bit may have been enough to pop it loose... I think you should be able to draw a line straight through the bri...

Gotta use the bridles. They are there. They are stainless wire so a bit hard to see compared to the orange tie-downs. The red tie-downs are to hold the foot of the mast down as the mast is lowered. Without them, the weight of the mast could pop the mast foot up once enough weight gets over the stern...

Lowered - Raised Mast for First Time - Picture Link!

It was crazy stressful...but next time will be easy. (C26) Had my wife and 14 year old son helping me. Had read everything here I could find and thought I was ready. I made a huge mistake and the whole thing "exploded" with the mast about 90% down - but no damage done other than to our ner...

Re: Parting out Sailor 280 outboard

I finally found a replacement for my Sailor 280 and since it's not a Chrysler I'm parting the old one out. I know parts are getting scarce so I thought I'd give you guys first crack at it. Block and one piston are trashed. The lower engine cover is cracked. Other than that everything is good and wa...

Re: Found a motor - Johnson Sailmaster

BTW, I'm parting out the Sailor 280, so if you need anything let me know. What you guys don't want will end up on Ebay. I could really use the tilt mechanism. The bracket that you release to tilt/lock and the long pin/shaft that holds it in place. Mine has been stuck in the water for several years ...

Re: 6hp for C-26???

OK, I think I already know the answer, but I just became aware of the Tohatsu 6hp "Sail Pro" motor. The price is right, it has 25" shaft and charging capability (5A). I also know that the old Chrysler Sailor 280 (12hp) was really overkill. Is this what you are referring too? http://w...

NYC, The SuzyQ I'm looking at has a 25" shaft so it should stay in the water as well as the old Chrysler did. The Power Tilt/High Thrust Suzies feature a bigger engine (302cc displacement, same as most 15hp). I like the idea of a bigger, slower running engine instead of the smaller engine, low...

I hate to sound stupid, but I don't think I have a "bilge" to put a pump in.

I have the fixed keel version...is there a bilge...and where is it?

I realized I have a origional parts list for the 79 280. Lists all part numbers and descriptions plus exploded views -cool stuff- :D EE I'll scan them to a PDF and send them to you to upload for all to see. The 'exploded view' of the tilt bracket is what I need! Has this been scanned and uploaded? ...

I could use part of the tilt assembly. The movable bracket with pin that allows the motor to stay in a tilted position. Hope that makes sense. The pin (or maybe it is a bearing...the thing that holds the tilting bracket in place) disappeared on mine and the tilting bracket thing has since been lost....

Thanks for measuring. I really appreciate all the help. Unless I'm more math challenged than I thought :) , I don't think my blocks are 'triple' blocks. I'll try to describe them: The top block has a becket and a single block. The bottom unit is a double block (a small block below a larger block) an...

If interested, on my 22 I have documented with very clear photos how to step the mast alone. I presume the 26 must be a similar method. If you click "stepping the mast alone" in my signature it will take you to my site with detailed description and very detailed photos. If you click each ...

C26 Mast Lowering Gin Pole/Bridle Question

Need to drop my mast for the first time and the manual and diagrams have me confused. When using the bridles on each side, it says to connect the midpoint of the genoa sheet to the end of the boom/gin pole, run it to the ring on each side bridle, then to the mast. Is this line to 'run freely' throug...

C26 Boom Vang Line Length?

Hoping someone can help me. My boom vang line wore out and I removed it to buy new line but foolishly 'lost' the old line. Don't know what I did with it. I have the hardware, but no line to measure. Anybody able to tell me how long a line to purchase? Anybody mind measuring theirs for me? Thanks!

There was also a movie with Sam Neil and Niocole Kidman, takes place on a boat, wouldn't exactly call it a sailing movie. Can't remeber the name
That would be 'Dead Calm'. One of my favorites.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Had not thought about an extension ladder. That may be just the ticket. Most mornings there are dead calm. Great idea about connecting a halyard or two to the top of the ladder. Millerton Lake Marina is pretty basic. No haul out services, no cranes. About the only...

New Member With a Question - Drop The Mast?

Hello all! Just found this forum and have enjoyed browsing and reading the many posts. We have a 1979 C26 (fixed keel). Is moored year round on Millerton Lake in the Fresno, CA area. Due to health problems, I wasn't able to get to the boat at all the last 12 months. We went Sunday and were able to s...
