Adding weight sounds like a simple idea, but keep in mind the resistance you give the boat to the wind with weight does not come free. Something on the boat has to make up the difference... upper and lower shrouds and chain plates are the first things that come to mind for me. Can you say dis masted...

One of my friends at the marina just bought a 30 footer for 4,500.00. Real nice older boat with a diesel. It's just as easy to learn to sail a big boat as it is to learn on a small one. Maybe easier, as the big boats ride better and are a lot more stable, but you ain't gonna trailer one.

Yes, it's amazing how fast a boat shrinks! The 22 you are looking at is not a 4000.00 boat. You should be able to pick up a boat in that condition for around 2500.00, and that may be too much. These Chrysler's are good boats, sturdy, well built, and worth while projects if bought at the right price....

Great looking repair, how did you blend in the finish so well? Did you paint a large section or just polish in a small area?

For better or worse I'll kick in my two cents worth. Unless the boat just came out of a complete refit, including a bottom job, good keel brackets, and great sails $4000 is way too much money for that boat. Sail boats are still a dime a dozen these days. If you like the boat don't be afraid to cut t...

Something to keep in mind working with fiberglass is polyester resin (common Fiberglass resin you find in the automotive shops) has a very weak bond to cured fiberglass structures. Therefore one should use an epoxy resin when doing these types of repairs. The epoxy takes longer to cure, but on the o...

When the wind got up I'd use the Genoa alone and found the boat (C22) to be very comfortable and responsive. I experimented with the main alone and found the boat to be sluggish and less responsive, so I always started with the Genoa then added the main reefed. I think you made a good call not to ta...

How about using a telescoping pool cleaning handle, those things are really long. I had to do the same thing on a Macgreggor 24, we pulled up along side a double decker dock and used a sappling we took from the local woods. We taped a hook from a bundgee cord to the end of the sappling and s...

If it were my boat I would remove the temp repair, apply heat to the damaged area in the form of a small heater in close proximity using some sort of box or other containing devise to keep the heat localized. I'd let that run for about 24 hrs. (making sure the temp stays within reason, say no more t...

I towed my Chrysler 10 hours one way then 10 hrs back last year at interstate speeds. The boat and trailer did fine, easier than towing a travel trailer by far. Check bearings and tire inflation for sure, more importantly in my book is to carry a spare tire and make sure you have a jack and tools to...

Sorry you got burned on the boat. The seller sounds like a real piece of work. I would go to Ebay and open a dispute due to the sellers dishonesty and misrepresentation, she owes you a partial refund. I would strongly recommend you check with your local registration office before you invest more tim...

Before you run out and buy hardware, check to see if the back stay (the cable for the back of the mast) turnbuckle is turned in too much (too short). Looking at the picture of your fore stay turnbuckle I'd say you have room for adjustment still ( in a way to make it longer). keep in mind that you wi...

Spending some time in the Dallas area for the next three weeks with nothing to do on the weekends. Hate to invite myself aboard. Just saying if anyone in the area needs a hand I'll be around, even if it's just working on one.

Hello Adam, I have had both the C20 and C22 boats and can testify to there sailing ability. They are both great boats. The C20 is more closely related to the C26 than the C22 in hull and swing keel design. Like you, I wasn't crazy about the rudder to outboard interference. At the same time I learned...
