That's odd. It's a pretty high up place to add weight, in those cubby holes. It seems like it would raise the CG. Maybe he was just trying to increase the tongue weight while on the trailer?

That is exactly where my boat's names came from. Courtesy of my wife.

I think even the factory installation had a ton of sealant squeezing out in that area. If your keel pin brackets don't look overy deteriorated when looking at them from down below, you're probably ok. All of my leaks were from above at the window frames and lifeline stanchions.

Three years after the installation and my story is the same. I love the stuff.

I like it. It looks like the scuppers are well below the water line, meaning it probably has the flush mounted drains in the cockpit, so the cockpit floor is above the water line (keep those drains clean!). Combined with those raised combings, that should make it a dry sailor for a boat it's size.

Fractional rig. Sounds like a fun boat!

Welcome to the site and good luck! Unsolicited advice: if the stanchions have been removed for an extended period, you might want to inspect the plywood core for rot before you install new stanchions.

My sheets are heavier as well (jib and main). I don't think they're quite 1/2" though. I think it might be 7/16".

That's a good question. Mine is symmetrical, so I'm no help. Personally, I would try it with two and see how it works out for you. I am starting to use a whisker pole on my 170% genoa for such instances.
