My mystery leak solved

Bruce...thanks for your excellent observation about the C-20 mystery leak. My C-20 has had a perplexing leak since I bought it, with a small amount of water collecting on only on one side of the swing keel bilge after sailing. I couldn't figure out why water also collected there even when the boat w...

Parting with my Chrysler 20....

Dave Ramsey says SELL THE BOAT! Yeah, I just listened to his tapes and I hate to part with my 1979 Chrysler 20, but I have two other sailboats already and need to let one go. Asking $2,400. The boat's best feature is its huge 8-foot-long cockpit that offers spacious room for daysailing or overnighti...

Thanks.....and weird.....

Appreciated the quick reply. Your issue sure sounds like what I'm experiencing with my boat. I'll go take a very close look at the hull to see if there are any small cracks or pinholes. It's a nuisance issue right now, since I trailer-sail my boat. But it also prevents me ever putting her in a slip ...

Any chance of a photo?

My Chrysler 20 has a very similar leak issue...only comes in on one side of the centerboard trunk, maybe a half gallon after a day of sailing. But I cannot for the life of me find where the water is coming from. Do you have a photo of the brown spots you've identified as the source of your leak? My ...

Mast raising.......

Hello JB.....I have a C-20 and found you "can" raise the mast by yourself if you're damn strong and no cables get hung up as the mast goes up. I figured there had to be a better way, so I built a very inexpensive mast raising system that works great and takes all of the pain out of the rai...

Glad to see another C-20 owner here....

I've had mine for about a year and a half and love how she sails. No problems at all, aside from a pesky slow leak into the swing-keel bilge....still can't find where the water is getting in. I also use an electric motor - 65-lb. thrust Minn-Kota that does well for most of my sailing. It had a hard ...

Good to see another C-20 owner...

Howdy PaSailor, I've got a C-20 in Springfield, Mo., that I really enjoy. It's a bigger boat than you'd think, judging from her short length. I built a mast raising system for mine that works great, since I trailersail her, but if yours is in a slip, that's awesome. Love to see more photos from C-20...

C-20 pics and mast-raising system.....

Here's a link (hope it works) to some Photobucket images of my Chrysler 20, and the A-frame mast-raising system I built that made hoisting the heavy mast an effortless task instead of an ordeal. Thank you, Vic, for the concept... I'm now able to raise the mast by myself, and can sail solo when the m...

Wow, Tim......

.....glad you survived that one. Your points about being prepared ahead of time are good ones. Hope nothing broke after all that. We had a young lady aboard our boat Sunday - her first time ever on a sailboat - and she raved afterwards about how exciting sailing is. I had to let her know that gettin...

C-20 in high winds.....

We had a rollicking sail Sunday in winds gusting to 25 knots at our small lake north of Springfield. Overall very pleased with our C-20's stability and speed, though we did put the starboard rail in the water and shipped a small amount into the cockpit when a really BIG gust pushed us over. Loosed t...

A relatively new lurker....

Wes here....age 53 in Springfield, Missouri. I'm a longtime sailor, thanks to my Navy veteran Dad who taught his boys to sail on a Sunfish and later a Hobie 16 while stationed at Pearl Harbor in the '70s. As teens, my brother Dan and I once got caught in the wind shadow of an aircraft carrier coming...

Sail slugs......

I'll check....haven't actually taken the sails out of the bag yet. I'm hoping my main does have slugs because I've found (in previous boats) they make it much easier to hoist the sail. By the way, Jmckamey, where are you located? I'm in Springfield, Mo. Is your C-20 playground a lake or the ocean? N...

Re: Rudder....

Thanks for that suggestion. I crawled into that area this morning and looked around. No indication of any water, and the rudder tube had two stainless hose clamps, the way it ought to be. I still think the rudder is a weak point and eventually may build a kickup rudder that hangs on the stern. Would...

Thanks for the observations....

I've noticed how water collects on the deck (at the aft end since my boat/trailer tip up slightly). I may try to remedy that. The bilges are bone dry now, even after some decent rain, so water doesn't appear to be getting in from above. I won't know if it's a keel-related issue until I plop her in t...

C-20 keel shoe......

I've searched the forum archives but don't find anything about where to possibly get a replacement keel shoe for a C-20. Mine is showering big flakes of rust when I tap it with a wrench, though the bolts seem to be intact and the cast-iron shoe still retains its shape with no cracks visible. Previou...

Howdy Vic......

I used to own a Buccaneer. Fast boat! If you're interested in a C-20, I learned of one for sale (of course a few days after I bought mine) that's down in the Branson area. No idea of condition but I can forward a contact if you're interested. Where do you sail up in the Rolla area?

Thanks all for the welcome.....

I'll be trailer-sailing for now - one of the reasons I bought the boat, since my Jeep could pull it to distant destinations. Stockton is a gorgeous sailing lake, with more sailboats than powerboats and two very nice sail-friendly marinas. I'll also tow her down to Bull Shoals Lake on the Missouri-Ar...

Introducing myself...a new C-20 owner

Greetings from Springfield, Mo.. My name is Wes and I just purchased a C-20 that was homeported in Lafayette, La.. I trailered her home this weekend through some pretty amazing Arkansas hills...my Jeep did yeoman's work but no breakdowns, thankfully - over 1200 miles . The previous owner kept the bo...
