Even though I no longer own a Chrysler I still may pipe in every once in a while. Welding aluminum can be tricky, the part needs to be preheated and post heated for a strong weld. If the weld cracks it's usually because the parent material was not hot enough causing the weld to cool too quickly. As ...

My short season
This past January I decided it was time for me to retire. My wife had retired three years ago and she seemed to be enjoying her new occupation, it was my turn. At 62 I was told to wait, wait for what, I'd worked for 42 years, never laid off or lost a job and I had never been off for more than 2 week...

My Catalina 25 was setup for single handing when I bought her. The starboard side has clutches and a single winch for the halyards, port side controls the vang and I would like to add a downhaul for the boom. The boom has a boom kicker which takes some getting used to. I also have Lewmar 16 self tai...

Free Boat!
Unfortunately, health issues will keep me from finishing all the work required to get the Maude Kay back on the water so I am offering her to someone with the time and skill to take on this project boat. Most of the major structural problems have been dealt with, the hull deck joint, reinforcement o...

I still check in every once in a while. My marina is still rebuilding after the damage from Sandy. All new docks, better power distribution, more water lines. The weather here has been great for more than a week and they are hoping to get everyone launched by Memorial Day. My last official day at wo...

I went down to the lake yesterday, the last sunken boat was hanging from the lift, a beautiful, salty looking ketch, glass boat with wooden spars. The marina has a crew repairing the floating docks, the submerged breakwater has been removed, probably taken up river for repairs, looks like there will...

Three years is a long time without love, I'd be a little weary of the boats condition. If you have the time, patients and money it might be worth it if the price is low. For apples to apples, oranges to oranges, this web site is kind of neat. http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html You'd mentione...

I purchased lines and other items from http://www.defender.com/. Their prices are reasonable, although shipping seems a bit slower that other online retailers I dealt with.

The last time Cleveland saw this much damage was July 4th 1969 when a tornado pretty much followed the shoreline. I am not aware of any deaths or injuries locally with Sandy, but the damage is everywhere along the Cleveland harbor. Some photos and video from this afternoon, winds were still around 4...

The dock my boat was tied up to on Thursday is gone. Half the marina has been destroyed, looks as though six boats sunk and more on there way, and the high winds are supposed to continue through the evening. My boat is still standing but moving, if it slips off the forward shoring, she'll be on the ...

Last weekend of the season.
I had a great sailing season although I was out about 10% less than last year. I am retiring next May and I doubt the Maude Kay will finished next year but I at least plan to launch her. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8056/8110293713_d45e182fb4.jpg video http://www.flickr.com/photos/93952888@N00/8110...

Sounds like a good time. Was this yesterday? I was out with 5 friends, decent breeze all evening, 5 minute before we reached home the wind jumped to 20mph. As soon as the I got bow pointed into my slip the wind caught the boat and pushed us into my neighbor, no harm we were able to fend off. Backed ...

A good quality bimetal (Milwaukee) blade should cut through SS but you'll need to run the saw as slow as it will go. Too fast, too much heat and the teeth will lose their temper. I'm not certain a carbide coated blade will work well on SS, they are best for ceramics, brick and fiberglass, they more ...

This is an older post regarding a leaky keel. I'm not certain if the fellow ever resolved the issue.

A working get together sounds like an interesting idea.
