Buccaneer bailers

I’m in the process of reconditioning a Buccaneer and have removed the old round bailers and glassed the holes. I’m looking to purchase Andersen mini bailers but there are two versions, inside Mount and outside mount. What is the difference between the two and which would be the “better” one for the ...

C26 for Sale Eastern WA. North ID.

After a couple of years of agonizing over the decision, I am putting my beloved 1978 C26 "Windwalker" up for sale. Health and lack of time are the reasons. Tandem trailer with extra wheels/tires. New cushions; 2013 New Lifelines; 2014 New Tohatsu 9.9HP outboard/Controls; 2014 Shore power, ...

I have a Rule-Mate 750 tucked in that area, with the hose running to the stern as high as I could put the thru-hull. It discharges into the outboard well (?) and not directly out the stern. The Rule-Mate 750 has an electronic level switch that has given me years of reliable service, but will leave a...

No need to preflex the lumber, the boat will do that. I replaced them on my C26 trailer with no issues. Just bolt to the risers and add carpet.

My wife routinely winches up the keel in Windwalker. There is a "grab " initially, I assume a friction fit when the keel is down, and then there is only moderate tension until the keel is up. She is not a physically strong woman. If I were thinking of buying this boat, I would run away as ...

1978 2-Stroke Chrysler 10HP Outboard, Free to a good home

I have a 1978 10 Hp 2 stroke Chrysler Sailor electric start outboard, model number 101 H8A, that runs although the idle needs some TLC. I will also provide all of the documentation I have collected over the years, service manuals, parts manual, etc. I replaced it with a 4 stroke Tohatsu. Yes this is...

Solar panels can definitely overcharge a battery if the charge controller fails, even small ones. Cheep solar controllers simply connect the panels to the batteries until a voltage is reached, and then disconnect the panel. Unfortunately, the primary failure mode for solar chargers is to short, leav...

Check your charger voltage. Contrary to common knowledge, 12V batteries should be charged at 13.3V, not the 14.4V a lot of chargers (cheep) use. 14.4V is for quick charging of a automotive battery. If too much voltage is used the battery will produce more hydrogen as a byproduct. (Hydrogen is produc...

This is the method I used to drop the keel of Windwalker when I first got her. I used 6 ton jack stands and timbers to build the trailer up high enough to get the keel off, several feet if memory serves me. I did this on concrete, make sure the jack-stand bases are well supported by wide solid bases...

My 78 also has "fur" in the aft berth. White or off-white that holds stains, especially rust, very well. I think it was standard in some years. From the aft berth forward its the standard "tuck & roll" white vinyl. Good luck painting, the fiberglass there is very rough, unfin...

I am not aware that DC MUST be grounded to AC, maybe those of you who have read the ABYC spec can comment. I would worry about a bilge pump that runs as often as once every three minutes. Without it it should be on the bottom! I have only noticed the automatic bilge pump going off once in the years ...

Battery Chargers

DO NOT USE AN AUTOMOTIVE BATTERY CHARGER WITH DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES! (Did I say that loud enough?) Assuming both batteries are twelve volt blocks, you wire positive to positive and negative to negative, then to the fuse/breaker panel and then to the equipment. You can tell if there are twelve volt by...
