I'm guessing this got fixed by now... I don't follow a lot because I sold my boat. I had a similar problem. The head stock developed a crack at the thin point on one side because when you clamp down the bolt that clinches it around the tiller tube there is a fulcrum point. I ended up manufacturing a...

Sold my boat

Tranquil Chaos now resides in Colorado Springs... The new buyer picked it up yesterday. I'm sending him info to direct him to this site so he can continue and complete the restoration I began. You guys continue to be a wealth of info. I will probably still lurk from time to time and wish you all the...

We do, however have members in the Midwest... and DENVER! Guess you know which way I'm leaning.

Now for the boat. Didn't get it out at all last year. Tiller is attempting to delaminate. Gotta get it off and repair. With 3 jobs I don't seem to find the time to work on it.

I know Garden City. Wife's family owned & operated a skating rink there. Checked the garage today and I have a full size drawing of the rudder outline. Can send a copy of it if you want. A friend of mine quipped, "Just cut out a slab of wood, stick it in there and go sailing." Did it. ...

I think I have a set of measurements and patterns nicely done by one of our members and then passed on to me. Probably something I should scan and get into our archives for future reference.

Ruddercraft.com has high performance rudders for sale (or for sail) specifically for the C22. My boat came without one. Folks on this site have made them from all sorts of materials. Dimensions and an outline are available in the documents section. So, where in Kansas? My wife & I are from Manha...

I've asked this question before too. My boat came with airfoils, but no bases. Replaced it all. I can't see how the original is zero degrees becasue the bases mount flush onto the mast, and it ain't square. It appears they protrude 90 degrees to the mast face. One approach I took to check this was r...

Dear Santa,
I'd like to borrow your elves to finish my boat and have it ready to sail this spring. In just a couple days you'll be done with them for this year and I could really use the help.

Thanks

It's just a 5/8" X 6" piece of steel rod, stainless if you want it to last longer. I got a piece of steel from Home Depot and cut several. One stays on board, one is in my rigging bag and another is in a compartment in my tow vehicle. Got to the lake once without one and am determined not ...

Sorry to take so long getting back. Mine just sits in the box where the old one came out. The sides of the box are about 3" tall and just keep things from sliding. But then, I'm a lake sailor so no really heavy seas planned.

My 78 C22 has two push-pull switches mounted port side, just forward of the gas enclosure. Not currently wired to anything. I solved the problem of having the ratcheting straps getting too tight by putting a 3' line through the eye of the bridle and tying a boline in each end. The ratchets go into the bolines. This allows the ratchets to the boom and mast to slide and keep equal tension. Works great!

Caveat: I am not a mind reader. Having said that, it is possible the PO was planning on using the hole under discussion to run throttle / shift cables for the outboard. Just thinking out loud, but my 22 has a hole in the stern about that same position off the lubbers line.

I had a similar experience - couldn't get that last uumph to make the stay come to the hole. Turns out the mast's electrical connection had slipped between the mast and the step. I was able to put enough pressure on the stay that it flattended the connector... which now needs to be replaced. Lesson ...

Greetings Smier! One thing you might add to the document. One end of the keel pin is usually tapped 1/4 - 20 X about 3/4" to accept a bolt so the pin can be pulled out. Without this threaded end, cutting the pin would be about the only way to get it out.

Warmest regards,

The keel brackets, for instance, were clean and like new, but not sealed and the bolts were not tightened (glad I checked it before plopping it into the lake)....

If you like pictures of nautical things, check with a local Goast Guard museum. The one in Seattle had full size prints of the original lighthouse plans. Make great framed pieces to display.
