Re: Lonestar 13 on trailer, ready to sail

Haven't gotten around to taking pictures but if anyone wants any specific pics of any part of the boat, just ask.

Lonestar 13 on trailer, ready to sail

Just ordered a brand new mainsail for my old sailboat, rigged it up and took her for a sail. The boat is old and faded and has seen better days, but she still sails just fine. My wife however didn't enjoy it, she prefers to kayak. So I'm selling it, including a trailer, for $500, just to recoup the ...

Lonestar 13 & new kick up rudder assembly for sale

Details over in the for sale forum, just wanted to throw it out here too for more visibility. Sad to part with it, will step up to a family sized boat when I have some free time again someday!

Not sure why the picture link didn't work, but if you copy and paste it into a new tab, you'll see a copy of my invoice.

brand new never used Rudder Craft kick-up rudder & tille

Ok, here's my sad story. I have a Chrysler Lonestar 13 (also for sale, btw...) it was my first sailboat. It's a real beater. Rescued it from slow decay in someone's back yard, spent a few hundred bucks fixing it and rigging it up, and sailed it around my local lake for 4 great summers. Well, the lak...

It does not have a back stay. Hmm, that is a great point. Does anybody have experience with modding an LS-13 in this way? Or does it really matter that much with a smaller boat and thus smaller sail area? When I am running wing and wing, is most of the load being placed at the bottom of the mast?

Spinnaker for a LS-13?

So I am in no financial position at all to invest in a spinnaker (nor am I willing to sail less in order to work more in order to afford it - not until winter), but everyone likes to dream, and I have been dreaming of a spinnaker for a while. Can anybody help me figure out what the right size would ...

Iron Mike, that's what I was thinking as well. It would just make future modification of anything along the sides of the deck a real pain... I might start at the back corners and do capsize tests, adding layers further forward until it was sufficiently buoyant. That way I could leave the area under ...

I'm reading on forums that 'Great Stuff' foam is a bad and un-economical idea. Mario, thanks for the link but this stuff ( http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html ) looks like a better buy... thoughts? My idea going forward is to use plastic bottles, sealed into place using this poured-in foam. So, mo...

bilgeboards

I paid a couple hundred to have the square pegs on the cranks and the square holes on the bilgeboards professionally re-machined by an aluminum welder. he filled in the holes with weld and then filed them down so they were square again. It's worked so far...

Flotation Foam

I was lucky enough to go sailing every day for the last three days in really exciting wind for my little LS-13, 12-20mph. On Sunday I capsized for the first time ever, which was really fun, but also sort of inconvenient. We swam around to the bilgeboards and stood on them, righting the boat, but bec...

hmm, ok. I'll have to take a look next time I'm at the boat and see what's on the other side.. My vague impression is that the place on the gunwale that I would do this at is more or less solid... because it's right at the edge of the boat. If that is in fact the case, is there a marine-grade adhesi...

drilling into fiberglass? thinking of making a modification.

Hey all. I'm sailing a LS-13. So, after reading up on sailing theory and doing a few experiments on Thursday with repositioning the jib sheet simply by pulling it around with my hand, I figured out that I'd be a lot better off if my jib sheets went through the blocks further forward. My boat came wi...

I haven't been keeping up with the thread too well... Tennessee is a bit of a haul, but if the finances and schedule look good come next spring, sounds like fun.

green/cost effective

Funny, my friends and I had this same conversation on sunday as we were being thrown around Lake Michigan on my LS-13. Is sailing cost effective? Is it green? Had to tow it from Lansing, though I would have made that trip whether or not I brought the boat. But, increased drag on the highway no doubt...

Ok, yeah, that's where I have looked so far.. Everything listed at the moment is much too large. I measured the old mainsail while it was lying the ground (not stretched tight) and it is ~6' foot, 13' luff, 14.5' leech. These dimensions might be a little small, because like I said, it wasn't stretch...

New LS-13 owner

Hi Everybody, I'm the new owner of a fixer-upper LS-13, and new on the forum here. This is my first sailboat, ever! So I'm pretty excited. I'm having the bilgeboard crank handles re-machined right now, and I still have a lot of stuff to go over.. So I might be asking some questions here and there. H...
