Re: Wanted C-26 from either Manitoba, Saskatchewan, North Dakota or Minnesota

Are you still looking for a C26 ? I have one for sale right now but it is in central Iowa, perhaps a bit too far to go.

Where to put the water

I put a forward and rear bilge pump in KG and plumbed the discharges into the sink drain being careful to have high spot on each so there was no chance of bak siphoning. While I was at it I put a shutoff near the thru hull fitting so that could be closed. This I did for a couple reaons. The first is...

The gin pole method works very well. Make sure your shrouds are not tangled and take your time. Also, be sure to connect the stirrups to the toerail to keep the mast from swinging from side to side. Pay attention to the wind and when possible, try not to have a cross wind on the mast while stepping....

I'm in full agreement that an ellectric drive is superior in most situations. However, has anybody ever stayed out just a little too long an got caught by a storm ? As for me, I'll have one of each since a trolling motor doesn't add much to the total weight of the boat. Since we're sailors most of u...

spreader bar repair

When I fixed our spreader last spring I found that the mast was collapsing due to not being supported internally. I ended up having the local metal fab shop build me a 3/16" thick stainless steel "wrap" with spar mounts that protrude outward and while I was at it I made the spreader b...

I have a custom made trailer so can't help you with an exact number but
I do have a question. What are you pulling it with ? If your vehicle is
large enough often times a bit more tongue weight is not a bad thing.
Withing reason of course.

If you decide to part out rather than sell whole, I'd like to buy the mast
foot and step hook from you. I believe the 22' are the same as the 26's.

stepping mast on C26

Your mast support looks a lot like the one I built. If you are worried about fiberglass, you might consider building a bracket that stands on the top edge of the motor mount. I used a couple light angle iron fingers the engage the corners of the motor mount to accomplish this. Yea, I know, I know pi...

I have a suction plunger. It's rather like a grease gun in size but has a simple plunger on the bottom and a fitting on the top so can fit various tubes and adapters onto it. washers here already, now, what oil to use

Franz marine really turned my order around fast.
Now that I have the right seals, what type of oil should
I use ( lower unit ) ? There aren't a lot of marine
dealers around here and the auto parts stores seem to
have varying opinions on what to use.

C26 mast raising

The directions from Chrysler work just fine. Follow them. There are a couple things we do different. 1) We have a dedicated gin pole rather than using the main boom 2) We built a mast support that stands on the motor mount which is held in place by a couple chains that are then attached to the rear ...

In our 26 I've noted some softness in the port aft area so I suspect that this project will be on the horizon for me as well. Just make sure the mast is supported internally or you may end up with
the same situation I faced earlier this summer with the mast starting to
dent inwards from the thrust of the spreaders.

beaching a boat

Back when we had a 22 I used to beach it fairly often. I had found a spot on a local lake with a sand bar that tapered downward at about a 45 degree angle. I'd pull up the keel and just point it into the sand. Once there, we'd tie anchors off on the stern cleats and put them out a 45 degree angles t...

cutting fiberglass

If you have access to an air compressor, I'd suggest getting an air die grinder. They have a wheel that is about 4-5" across and will cut through just about anything. To keep the heat build up under control and the dust down, mist the blade as you cut. Yea, it's messy but the cut will be clean ...
