Yes, it is a loose footed sail. Not sure what is the best way to attach the sail with this type of sail.
Thanks

Hardware failure and shredded sail on my Manowar

Tried sailing my Manowar with my son last Sun. The winds at the local reservoir were strong and gusty. Made it across the lake once but on the way back the snap connecting the boom to the back grommet of the sail broke and we became helpless in the water. The violent luffing of the sail shredded the...

manowar rudder

Hi,
Haven't checked this forum for a while. Haven't thought much about sailing yet since it has been so cold and rainy in Iowa. I have a manowar with a metal rudder. Don't have plans for constructing on but could give dimensions from mine if you want.

Got it Fixed!

Thanks to all for the encouragement and advice on fixing my Manowar. I ordered a 6" access port online and with fear and trepidation cut a hole with my jigsaw on the aft deck of the boat. Once I got inside I discovered the marine plywood was mostly rotted. I took a Dremel and cut around the thi...

repair ideas

Thanks to all who responded. The access port sounds reasonably doable. I would probably then epoxy a piece of aluminum inside, patch the outer holes and drill through everything and bolt it together. Don't know how long this would take. The sailing season in IA could be coming to a close in the near...

Discouraged and considering getting rid of the boat!

Just tried to have the maiden voyage in IA of my newly acquired '74 Manowar. While backing the boat down the launch ramp with the rudder on, it caught on the ramp and completely pulled the rudder and mounting plate off the back of the boat! I was amazed at how the rudder plate was attached--only 4 s...

Paint stripping from fiberglass

Tried the oven cleaner trick with +/- results. Tried Zinsser Paint stripper--seems to work better. Once I got the paint off, I discovered 3 areas of previous patching. The patching substance is somewhat soft--wonder if this is marine putty. [I have never seen it before.] Don't know what to do about ...

Re: leak

Thanks for the welcome. Lee, I looked more closely at the hull. The previous owner had painted it with a cheap paint and I am trying to remove it to get to the problem. There are several cracks that appear big enough to allow some water to seep in. Once I get the paint off, I plan to use fiberglass ...

Just joined the fleet

Hello. I just discovered this forum yesterday and am pleased to join it. I just bought a '74 Man'O'War from an owner in Indiana who absolutely loved the boat and hated to part with it. After having it in the water for a week, I discovered the boat does take on some water over time. Not sure where th...
