I don't think you should ever tow your dinghy on a chrysler, while coastal, except for very short spans. After years of cruising in chryslers, I keep the dinghy motor on the stern rail (on my c26), in a mounting block and my 10' inflatable lashed and broke down on the deck. After safely anchored, th...

John and I had lunch recently, and were reflecting on some of our old adventures. He looked at me thoughtfully and swallowed the french fry he'd been chewing on. "You know Chuck, the trips we took during those years would be considered dangerous by some, maybe even foolish by others, but those ...

Miles of Open Ocean in a C22 - Voyage to the Dry Tortugas

On February 8th, I posted a story about a cruise that a friend and I, along with our two sons took to the Dry Tortugas back in June 1996 ("Father and Son Cruise in a C22"). The adventure I'm about to share is another cruise to the Dry Tortugas that we took in May 1998. This is the diary fr...

Lightning protection

I really enjoy this forum, and I've learned alot. It's amazing how well ya'll care for your boats, and the passion displayed here. My wife and I are gearing up for our spring cruise on "Second Wind", our c26, and I was curious about what you do for lightning protection? There are several s...

The short answer is the same for any sailing question; it depends on the weather. We never left from Key West, but returned there from D.T. This trip took almost three days. The wind was on our nose, straight out of Key West and we had many tacks and jibes. I was just reading Will's diary from anoth...

four guys on a c22

Tom, that's great. My wife and I also have a c26. We spend summers on it, and during the last several years we've cruised and gunkholed the waters from SC to Florida, where she is currently berthed. Caz

Father and son cruise in a c22, Ohio Key to Dry Tortugas .

I hope that you enjoy reliving this adventure with me; it might even inspire someone. Starting in the early 90's, up to 2001, my friend and I, along with our sons Will and Jake, loaded up the c22 and trailered down to the Florida Keys for our yearly adventure, and father-son bonding experience. On t...

Alan, it wasn't like that. While under way, someone had to man the helm 24 hours a day. William would stand watch for x hours, the Cap would stand for x hours, Jake and I would stand watch together for x hours. This should become clear as the adventure unfolds. I'll try to post more after brunch. Ca...

sounds to me like you need a cruising guide. I'd never cruise without one. They're made for specific areas. Google them.

electric keel winch

Terrence No bother, all part of the big trip. My wife and I have cruised our c26 for 6 summers from Georgetown SC, to Ft. Pierce Fl. which is where she is currently. We've explored lots of rivers and Sea-Islands, met many good people and visited some great ports. While on the outside, we had some fa...

I also believe in the "kiss" school of thought, especially on a sailboat. Do they make an electric winch with a manual crank that can be put on if needed and removed? I use my keel alot to feel my way through some of the skinny water on the ICW, especially in Georgia where the ditch is not...

chrysler 26 electric winch for swing keel

I'm new to this site and I apologize if this subject has been covered, but, have any of you considered, or know of anyone that replaced the keel winch with an electric winch?
