Sorry didn't respond earlier been out a lot with work and vacations over the last month. Just got back from an awesome Boundary Waters (N. MN) canoing/backpacking/fishing mancation. Anyway, we sail and keep the Chrysler at Lake Red Rock. We also sail our Laser and Hobie sometimes at Big Creek near S...

Safety First When Helping Someone!

Had a great day sailing with some friends yesterday afternoon at Red Rock, fairly stiff winds 15, gusting to 20-25 made for some fun and excitement. We sailed similar to Captain Scott mentioned in his last post, sailing full sail but letting off on the main in the puffs...and we had 3 adults up on t...

Android Speedometer

Used this free app on my phone to check speed/direction/map routing this past Monday when we took out our C-20. Winds were 8-15mph. We did anywhere from 4-6.2mph (3.5-5.4 knots) and traveled 13.2 miles. Has anyone else used these apps and been able to check/confirm accuracy. Should be accurate from ...

Taking the day off tomorrow and going out since Saturday was too windy. 10mph winds should be perfect for the 1st time out this yr.

Good thing to learn from each others experiences. I had visions of Bruces experience last yearwith the dock and didn't think we should do a sequel. We have a 5hp long shaft tohatsu that's pretty good, but like any outboard has given us problems at all the wrong times.

Here's some of the completed pics of our C-20. A lot of things done to it, but nothing better than repainting it to freshen it up! Thanks for all the input...we chickened out  Winds were sustained 20-25 but gusting to 35. We would have still considered going out but 2 other sailors had already turned around and motored back, 1 turned his car around after checking out and said he was trying another day, and 2 others said t...

We have a 110 genoa and the main. Maybe we'll get out there and try the genoa and reefed main first. Any trick in reefing the main or do you just tie it under the boom? Never had a need to consider doing it.

Jib or Main in Higher Winds

Can't wait to get the boat out on the water for the first time tomorrow. Done a lot to it over the off season including: New Paint, New Cushions, New Rudder Lines, Re-did all the Wood, repainting the C20 emblem on sail, bunch of odds and ends. Should make the boat sail better...right?!?!?! (I'll sen...

I just used the rustoleum topside paint for re-painting the side stripes on our C20. Went on quit nicely, took 2 coats for a decent coverage. Looks great, only concern so far is that it seems a little tacky (not wet) yet after a few days. I could take my finger nail to it and scrape off a little pie...

Drawing a blank on the sailing term for the rubber jib "cleat" on my C20. Thinking about replacing them...they're brittle and let the jib sheet slip in a good breeze. Any ideas on a good place to get them?

The key if you're storing your boat away from home (as we are too), is to keep enough parts of your boat at home to feel the love. We've got all the wood, cushions, table, and rudder that welcome me home each day when I pull my car in the garage. Of course we also have the little Hobie Hawk 9' sailb...

Toy Chrysler Sailboat

Actually no resemblance to a Chrysler sailboat, however, I am making a toy sailboat with my 6yr old. Started this project, just cutting the board in the shape of a sailboat, when I was 12. Finally going to finish it up. Nothing super fancy just making it out of a 2x6. I just put 5 coats of paint on ...

Motor Mounting Plate

I need to replace my wood motor mounting plate on my C20. It was a teak? block before 8.5"x10"x2". Having a hard time coming up with something to replace it. Can't find any teak blocks. Would any other wood work well for making this?

I've decided to do the epoxy. Terrence's painted hatch looks great with the wood accent. The C20 doesn't have any wood accent. Also, once painted always painted. I'll try the epoxy first and see what I think. Thanks for all the input!
