Re: Rub Rail Repair

Greg, To keep our server storage cost low, we enforce a 256KB limit for image attachments. Most cameras these days have a default setting of 1MB, so if trying to take something directly off your camera and post here, you're likely going to hit that limit. There are a ton of free photo editors online...

Re: C22 trailer measurements

I'm adding couple more pics if it helps. The first is my old trailer, with boat. Second and third show final product. The keel is visible and you can see how it rests on rollers. Resting on the rollers, with my trailer, the bottom of the keel is probably very close to the same height as the side rai...

Re: Suddenly, My Pop-up Top Won't Sit Properly in It's Track, And the Companionway Boards Are Too Tight to Fit

Lydia, Do you have any pictures you can attach? I have a C22 with a pop-up. You said everything fit nicely, presumably when the boat was on the trailer, and the keel supported on the trailer. Is the boat still in the water with this condition? If so, now that you're in the water, the keel is only su...

Welcome to the forum! Most here have done that ,..and lots more! Check the links on the main forum page for Rudder and Keel. Everyone has their own way of dropping the keel, so browse thru those posts and you'll get ideas. Most keels on older C22's have major rust issues and require heavy grinding, ...

Lewmar Standard Opening Portlight - Size 4R and 4L
LEW393440500 and LEW393460500
Fantastic construction. They are pricey, but you'll never need another portlite. They come in anodized aluminum, but I painted mine black to match my color scheme

Re: OEM Standing Rigging ?

Joshua, I haven't heard of anyone on this board having lost their rigging unexpectedly. On replacing, I'm the kind of person that enjoys DIY, so I would never consider paying $$$ to do what I can do, except of course I do pay for swaging. Measuring can be tricky in some cases. I just finished with a...

Re: Reporting Aboard

Joshua, Welcome, and also working in Knoxville (not native Big Orange though ). I know that lake and marina well, but planning on using Cherokee Lake for most of my sailing this Spring. Did you find that C22 on Craigslist? That part about Colorado reminds me of one I saw there last year. On pictures...

Re: Newbie to sailing

Greetings to all. In planning to retire in the next 3-4 years and planning to sail for the twilight years, started with an O'day 14 to learn the ropes, so to speak, earlier this spring. Ran into a good deal on a Chrysler 22 in fair condition so picked up for a project boat and sail before retiremen...

I tend to agree. I think of it like this...imagine the boat in mid air, now lower the keel 60 degrees, not heel the boat over 20 degrees. Has gravity had an effect on it,..you betcha! I'm guessing Chrysler had that in mind when adding it to the later models. Again, to be the most effective you need ...

Chris, Here's a link to a post showing the original keel stabilizer with plastic rod inserted. Plastic is either Nylon or UHMW PE or some other high density material. Best bang for the buck is UHMW PE, super strong and cheap. http://chryslersailors.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=4852 Most people on ...

Rudder Upgrade Part 2

Finally got my new rudder installed and posting pics. I cut this blade from a piece of 1.5" x 2' x 4' UHMWPE plastic using ordinary shop tools....belt sander, angle grinder, planer, etc. I'd like to think it conforms to the NACA 0012 airfoil specs, but there might be some slight variations :) http:...

Thanks for the tip on Gut-Rot, I may use that. I did some more poking around and found that the rot is fairly extensive. The top portion of the plywood seems solid, but it's rotted, and in some spots still damp (!), down toward the bottom of the compartment and to the "half moon" around the keel pi...

not at all an expert on the C22 keel, but there are more forces while under sail than just "supporting" the weight of the keel. Guess I'm overcautious, but in my experience of doing 30 years of hardware design I'd think the entire hull including the trunk act as a single "monohull" structure. There...

I'm sure it can be rebuilt, but the question is how to do it and how long would it take; or how much would it cost to have a shop do it. I guess I'm glad I saw that, I was hoping to get it in the marina next week. An even scarier thought is that even though I didn't see it, or it wasn't visible las...
