Re: Size of Rope on tiller

there are (should be) two jam cleats on the tiller. Diameter would be based on what works with these cleats. 3/8 sounds about right. I'd start with 4' lengths and trim if needed.

Re: Ok so a c22 isn't the same as a sailfish! Help!!!

most C22s don't have a boom vang. IMO it's not needed on a boat this size. The boom vang may be from another boat and wasn't used. Try it without.

I'd think the boom belongs where ever necessary after the main is hoisted to the top of the mast. Probably below the mast gate.

Re: 1976 c22 capacity decal

so my original color brochure says "She's just right for a family of five, a racing crew of 2-3, or the single handler". So her plate had to be at least 5 persons. I'd guess it could have been 6, but certainly not more.

Re: 1976 c22 capacity decal

this is the formula for small boats based on people being 150# (rofl)
"Number of people = vessel length (ft.) x vessel width (ft.) ÷ 15"

I think Bob may be pointing you in the right direction (800# keel pulling down winch/passageway due to delamination/rot.

OK. Well, in light/moderate winds maybe. It'll be "fun" if it breaks.

Is "Poly" polypropylene or polyester? I'm speaking of polypropylene. https://www.westmarine.com/WestAdvisor/ ... ng-Rigging

Re: C22 haylard spec question

you don't want poly (for a number of reason). Halyards need to use line that doesn't stretch (poly does). The correct line isn't cheap, but IMO you'll regret using a cheap substitute.

Re: considering buying this C22

the leakage around the cabin boards is typical. I solved mine by putting thin rubber weather stripping (Ace Hardware) on the bottom of each board (especially the bottom one). I also put the rubber weather stripping inside the metal channels on the sides of entrance the boards fit into. You might hav...

for the price probably worth a risk. Bolts can be as strong as welds. Rust on the solid cast metal swing keel should be OK.

Re: In the water 24/7

If you sail regularly/often that will help keep down growth. When it sits for a couple weeks growth goes crazy. And yes, power wash ASAP when you pull it out. I've also seen people use a long handled brush to clean the waterline regularly which is where growth happens 1st.

Re: In the water 24/7

I'd think you'll need bottom paint or the crud will get pretty heavy. Mine is slipped 24/7 in Green Bay for 4-5 months. It has bottom paint but still get some heavy growth in spots I can't get bottom pain on.

Re: Gas tank question

by battery in my C22 is inside the boat as close as possible to bottom center. Since it's heavy IMO it should be as close to center of centerline and as low as possible to help make the center of gravity as low and near middle as possible. Not sure why it can't be in the cabin if it's in a battery b...

Re: Where's the water coming from?

My C22 had seepage onto the sole floor when I got it. Finally traced it to a crack in the fuel locker (aft middle) due to they'd put a heavy battery in there. I believe the battery bouncing when trailering cracked the floor of that compartment near the seam with the stern. I moved the battery into t...

I'd pour some RV antifreeze (not toxic) down the rudder post and cable tube. I think the antifreeze is lighter than water and should remain in the tube.

Re: Winter in Slip

my concern would be those cracks/seams where water is coming in. I'd assume you get air temps often that are below freezing even though the lake isn't freezing over. Moisture in those leaking cracks/seams is going to freeze and expand, making the problem worse. Moisture is also probably getting in t...
