Sorry it took me a while to get the photo. Here is my son holding the rudder up as far as it will kick up. You can see that it does not impact the outboard at all.

My rudder can be fully up, and does not hit my outboard. I wouldn't want it any other way, as I want the rudder to be able to kick back if I hit something, without doing major damage to the boat. The two rope system is certainly not great, but I don't have any trouble getting mine up or down. Perhap...

The Kiwi-slides look clever, but it looks like they still have to be sewn to the sail. At that point, I would think it would be just as easy to sew the luff tape on. If they just tie on, I suppose it would be reasonable, but I would wonder about the cost if it was just a temporary fix. As far as con...

Sorry for your pain. My dc wiring is very simple. A circuit for cabin lights, one for nav lights, and one for accessories ( I added a power socket and a few USB charging ports. I used most of the original wiring, but I converted all bulbs to led. I also added a switch above the head door going to th...

I have only been sailing a few years, and am self taught, so take anything I say with several grains of salt. That said, I like talking about sailing while my boat is sitting on the trailer covered in ice here in Michigan. :D I sailed my 26 across Lake Huron this summer from Presque Isle to Meldrum ...

We had the same set up on Emergency Exit when we got her, until one day I realized that the point where the bilge hose connected to the sink drain was only a few inches above the thru hull which was only a foot above the waterline ! And there was no check valve or anti siphon high loop either, just...

I have a 1977 26'. I just replaced some rotted plywood in my cabin sole last year just forward of the companionway steps. There is no access hatch in ours. The best access I found to the bilge is under the rear berths just aft of the companionway steps. The storage area under the rear berths tapers ...

I can't offer much help, but I did buy a reefing hook with the intention of putting it on the goose neck like you mention. When I got it to the boat, I really didn't like the way it looked like it would fit. It seemed like it would be awkward at best to cram the sail down, and get that hook through ...

North Channel Lake Huron
We just got back from a nearly 2 week cruise to the North Channel. We had a wonderful time, and the boat performed beautifully. It is a little tight with 6 of us on board, but much more spacious than our old MacGreggor 22. We had no problems with stowage, even carrying almost all of the food we woul...

The big factor for what battery will be your usage. People use traditional deep cycle batteries, and AGM, on sailboats, so I don't think there is a right or wrong there. Just get one that will meet your needs, and make sure you have an appropriate charging system for your battery, as that has a bit ...

Removing C26 Rudder Head
So I am trying to drop my rudder to deal with the unacceptable amount of slop I have now. I suspect I will be replacing the mushroom bearings. Right now I can't get the rudder head off. It has 3 Phillips head screws holding it on that refuse to come out. Two have been Sheared off, and one remains to...

I can't make out much from the photos. If the bumps are raised, you might sand them down and try to see what is going on. When I sanded the old bottom paint off of mine when I bought it there were some weird dime sized areas that were higher than the rest of the hull. By that I mean the bottom paint...

That looks pretty bad. Again, I don't think it would be technically hard to fix. I would try to cut out what is there, use it for templates to make new, then glass it back in. If you enjoy projects for the sake of restoring things, I don't think it should keep you away. If you are more looking just ...

Welcome to the forum. Pictures will certainly help folks understand and comment on your project. I have a 26 that has some rot in the cabin sole. I tore it up, and am waiting for warmer weather to glass in some new wood. So far I would say it is hard work (tearing out the old glass and rotted plywoo...

I would avoid upsizing and increasing for the sake of personal luxury due to my religious convictions. (Yes, I realize luxury is a very relative term, and one I constantly wrestle with). That said, if I were to come into a virtually unlimited amount of money, I would liquidate all I have, and move m...

Sail Slugs
I have a handful (19) of sail slugs I found on my 26. I have a replacement mast, so I am assuming these were from the original. They are plastic, and have a cylindrical part that goes in the mast that is about 9mm (.355 in) in diameter. If anyone wants them, give me an address, and I will send them....
