C22 Roller Furling?

Hello! My sailing partner and I are starting to seriously consider adding a roller furling headsail to our C22. I am here to do some initial fact-finding. Does anyone out there have a roller furler on their 22 that would be willing to share anything we might need to know to make it happen. Also, we ...

Sorry resurrecting this, but I'm curious about a mast gate for a C22. It's becoming clear that we could really use something that would actually keep the slugs in the track as opposed to the (original?) springy, flappy, thing that is currently there. Has anyone had any luck installing an aftermarket...

Oops... Should have searched better. Sorry. I just found a thread on hull speed that gave me what I wanted to know.

How Fast is Your C-22?

Kind of a lame question, I know... but this boat has been providing me with my first keel boat sailing experience, and I am curious if we are in the ballpark. Today we started with a full mainsail and 70% jib. We were able to cruise pretty consistently at 5 knots, occasionally cracking over 6. Later...

Thanks everyone!

Re-sealing the through hull and replacing the flexible hose was one of the first things we did when we got the boat. Seeing as this whole system seems to be otherwise working well, I went ahead and simple filled the gaps between washer. Seemed to work great on the water today!

Thanks guys. I'm certainly a fan of the "do it right" idea. But only, of course, if I know what "right" looks like! Anyone willing to snap a picture of what this looks like when it's right?

Rudder Post into Cockpit Question

Hello! The fitting where the rudder post enters the cockpit of our C-22 is spaced with little washers. Must be something the previous owner did. I can't imagine it was designed like this, huh? The trouble is... when water comes up the rudder post and splashes into the cockpit while sailing or motori...

This year you may not need to go south  Good point. I'm hoping that's the case! It's not looking like my buddy will be able to be as available as me that week, so we might not be capable of doing much traveling. If not by then, it sure feels like there'll be some open water around here soon,...

C22 Topping Lift

I know there are a few of you who have added Topping lifts. Any advice on the best way to rig one up? Something simple that is fixed at the top of the mast and that cleats off at the end of the boom? Or avoid cluttering up the end of the boom and instead add a block at the top of the mast to accommo...

VERY helpful! Thanks Scott. I knew it couldn't be that hard! :) Sorry. I should have been more clear. Yes, the sail has one set of reef points. In my search for info, I have heard it mentioned that there is a danger of gusts ripping grommets out of reefed sails. This scares me. How does one avoid th...

...and after the installation of a new rudder post cap, a general refurbishing of the entire tiller/rudder assembly, and the installation of a new motor mount, plus a few other odds and ends, we got it in the water for the second time this weekend. This time on Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin. About a...

Here are a few shots from the sea trails on Shagawa Lake in Ely, Minnesota. Only the tiller/rudder post proved to be problematic. I'm not very familiar with the sailboat market, but that seems like a pretty minor problem for a $2000 boat. A hugely successful and fun day! http://i1319.photobucket.com...

Thanks for the warm welcome! MichiganBill - No sailing on Devil's Lake for us. Actually, the thought of that is pretty comical, as I'm sure you know! Where will we be sailing? Short answer: Anywhere we can. For example, next weekend we are planing to take it to Lake Castle Rock. Good luck with your ...

Downhaul and Jib Sheet Questions

When I introduced myself as a new C22 owner I said that I was happily finding the answer to most of my questions to be readily available online. But alas... I have a few questions to lay before you guys. Downhaul. The boat didn't come with one, but from what I can gather from the picture in the owne...

New C22 Owner in Wisconsin

Hello! A buddy of mine and I just acquired a '76 C22 that we hope will take us from simply being two guys with just a little bit of small open boat sailing experience experience between us to being a couple of guys that might actually dare call ourselves sailors. We had it in the water for the first...
