Re: C26 Rigging pictures

Thanks for the reply. I have sorted out a few things, including adding some blocks on the rail just forward of the cockpit for the jib sheets. That fixed the jib sheet alignment into the rear blocks that feed the winches. The main sheet jam cleat needs an update as well as jib sheet replacement. Tha...

C26 Rigging pictures

Hi all, Finally launched our new to us C26 last weekend and took her out for a sail yesterday. Purchased the boat last spring, but was never able to get her in the water. Was pleasantly surprised how nicely the boat sailed in a 8 to 10 mph breeze, moved right along with some old sails on. Watch &quo...

Re: C26 Mast raising pics

Thanks Dan. I like that idea with PVC pipe better as my mast stand is kinda heavy, but it is what I had available so I added the forks. I will make one of those over the winter, but probably have the base sit on a 3/4" piece if plywood to spread the load a bit.

Re: C26 Mast raising pics

And finally, it's up! Kind of a pain with a roller furling versus a normal forestay, but it worked as the roller furling housing had to be pushed to the side and pulled up the deck as the mast came up.

Re: C26 Mast raising pics

Here are additional pics (3-5) of support and other rigging. Really important to use 4 tie down ratchet straps to ensure the stern support holding the mast does not tip over (it wants to!).

C26 Mast raising pics

Finally got around to posting these images of mast raising on my C26. Took me a while to figure out how to get the mast supported properly on the stern in order to move it back far enough and get at the proper angle to ensure the mast went into the mast step hook properly. I ended up building a supp...

Re: Any advice on raising the mast for the first time?

Jeff,

I've found that you should post these in the general discussion forum, you'll get more visibility / replies. If you search on bridles and mast raising you'll find lots of info. on the site. Good luck, you may want to re-post.

Kyle.

Re: Any advice on raising the mast for the first time?

Nice looking boat and trailer. I'll let you know in 2 weeks when I try to raise mine for the first time on the C26 I bought this spring.

Re: New to me C26

Thanks Bruce. Lightnings are a great boat, I raced yesterday with my 2 teenagers and we had a wonderful time. After the parade this morning it's back to work on getting the C26 ready to hit the water in a few weeks.

Re: Cockpit floor construction on C26?

Thanks Holiday, will let you know how I make out, probably a winter project. I will peel back the fuzz a bit and take a look to see what kind of shape they plywood is in. Did you replace with plywood again, or a plasti-composite type of board?

Re: New to me C26

If there are any better instructions or images on C26 mast raising than the 1977 manual that someone has written up I would appreciate the link. I have poked around and found some things, but original instructions are not great.

Thanks!

Re: Cockpit floor construction on C26?

Thanks Dan. If there is no wood core on the cockpit floor that will make it much easier to reinforce. As I was tapping on it it did seem like it was all glass. Boat is in my barn, but will run the hose to determine where the leaks are.

Cockpit floor construction on C26?

Cockpit on my C26 could use some reinforcement. Not a pressing issue, maybe a fix for next winter. A few spider cracks in the cockpit floor, but would want to reinforce before addressing. I have the wonderful fur on the bottom of the sole underneath the rear berth in very good shape. A few small lea...

Re: New to me C26

Thanks Tim. If it ever stops raining here in NY I'm going to try to step the mast a few times with 3 of us before I attempt at the launch. I have a set of bridles that came with the boat, plan to use the boom as the gin pole as you said. Will have to sort out the other parts and positions per the or...

Re: New to me C26

70 mph would not work on this rig, I had some trailer sway over 50 - 55 that was a bit uncomfortable, especially going down hills. Need to sort that out. I know the boat has very little tongue weight the way it sits on the trailer, so the previous owner put some weight on the front of the trailer wh...

Re: New to me C26

Here are a few pics. Drove well with the Ram, just kept it below 50 mph and it was quite stable. Now I need to sort out raising the mast and finding a suitable boat launch.

Re: New to me C26

Thanks Dan. I was just crawling around in the boat in the barn where I have it stored for now. Will clean it up a bit and sort out what goes where. Tons of room in the cabin for sure!

New to me C26

Hi all, Will have a few questions for this group along the way. Open to suggestions on prioritie...

Re: C26 - what is the deck cored with?

Thanks for the reply and good information Dan. I am looking at a few other boats, including some Catalina 25's. One positive about the C26 is the interior, my first mate really liked the space and standing room in the C26, much better than the Catalina.

C26 - what is the deck cored with?

Hi all, New to the forum and looking at possibly purchasing a 1978 C26. Boat appears to be in good shape, not many frills or extras but well maintained and hull and deck appear in good shape. Is the deck cored with balsa or some other material? Are soft decks common with the C26? I did not find any ...
