Renovated 1978 Chrysler 26 and renovated trailer for sale
Restored 1978 Chrysler 26 with a restored trailer. This is a great boat and among the largest of trailer sailors with standing headroom. This boat was a Covid isolation project. We love sailing so much that we are upgrading to a larger boat. This boat is a tank with filler furling 150% genoa and a 1...

Re: Easiest cockpit floor fix?
We can talk more details over the phone if you send me a PM with your contact information. In short I did not cut away the fiberglass tabs. I just put the plywood over everything. I lost 1" of headroom as result. After everything was secure with the epoxy i put new headliner throughout the whol...

Re: Easiest cockpit floor fix?
I did some of this during the restauration of our C26. I cut a piece of 1" plywood to size and caked one side full of epoxy. I used a car jack from the birth under the cockpit to push it up against the cockpit sol from underneath. I them drilled 10 holes through the cockpit and put 0.25" b...

Re: Chrysler 26 Draft
I measured the draft as a function of swing keel winch location while my C26 was on straps. The numbers below include when the keel is all the way up (0 rotations) to the keel being all the way down (16 rotations). Here were my findings. Winch Handle Rotations Draft (feet) 0 2.33 1 2.92 2 3.25 3 3.5...

Just an FYI for those who are curious of tow weight for the swing keel version of the 1978 Chrysler 26.
Trailer - 1800 lbs
Chrysler 26 - 5500 lbs
Tow weight - 7300 - 7500 lbs when fully loaded
Tongue weight - 700 lbs

Re: What does a C26 head look like?
I bought a 1978 C26 3 years ago. The bathroom has no head (bowl) nor any holding tank. Just a porta-potty. There is a "waste" metal plug on the port deck and a hose coming down from it going inside the bathroom. That's all the evidence of any previous head. No bolt holes on the floor. I s...

Re: C26 lifting frames and keel drop pics (added more pics)
I raised my 26 keel trunk 30 inches off the gound. That was plenty of clearance. When the keel pin shoes were removed that allowed another 3 or 4 inches of clearance for the tall part of the keel. Hi, I set the date to get MerSea on Jack-stands (aug 16) to have the bottom stripped, re-barrier coate...

Re:
Cool pics - did you have any issues getting the bolts out of the keel shoe ? I always wonder about the nuts to receive the bolts, and where they are - guess they dropped something like a plate in place before they did the ballast pour or something.. First bolt I tried wouldn't move, in fact I ended...

Chrysler 26 swing keel hinge and water in bilge
I have been doing research and have learned that the swing keel boot needs to be removed in order to replace the swing keel hinge. Does anyone have advice on how to replace the swing keel hinge. I have water in the bilge and I suspect it is coming from the pivot point of the swing keel. I sealed all...

Re: Chrysler 26 water in bilge
I had water in the bilge coming from the rear of the keel . It must have grounded at some time and the glass was very thin there. I found the leak when the boat was on the trailer and there was a wet spot that was weeping. That was a quick fix. I also had water on the sole that was coming in throug...

Re: C26 May have found the leak
I just finished a partial restoration of my Chrysler 26. I first found some Water infiltration into the bilge from below the waterline. It came from two spots. One was from where the rudder penetrates through the hole underneath the aft birth. The other one came from the old hull penetration from th...

Chrysler 26 water in bilge
Quick question for other Chrysler 26 owners. We completely renovated our boat including taking off the toe rails and rebuilding them after caulking the deck joints. The only thing we didn’t do is take off the old bottom paint and reapply barrier coat and ablative paint. Next year. But I noticed some...

Here is a video I made of the work thus far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EshWSrVCJe0 The work I would like to do at the end of the season if to do the following: 1. Take off the old ablative paint and repa...

C26 - rebedding toe rails
I have a 78 Chrysler 26 that I am partially restoring. I am at the point of rebedding the toe rails. I wanted to confirm that water flows in the gap between the toe rail and the deck and then drains through the holes on the bottom of the toe rail. If that is the case, I will not use any sealant when...

I have a 1978 Chrysler 26 and noticed a leak from the rudder shaft penetration on the bottom part of the hull that is below the water line that trickles into the bilge. Any advice on how to repair it?
