The type of motor you need depends on the conditions where you are sailing. Last season my outboard only ran on one out of two cylinders, I only had problem motoring against strong winds and waves. I am sailing in Norway and definetly needs a extra long shaft. I have a 9.9 johnson sailmaster. One pr...

The same happens when I am motoring at high power. When you reach the hull speed, the bow of the boat will be raised and the aft will be lowered. This is normal. I get some of the water into the cabin as well, but I am not worried about this, I know where it is leaking. If I am sailing fast, quite f...

I have had the same problem with water in this enclosed area. The previous owner made some small holes at the buttom of the box for draining. I also miss the caps, however, the water has been comming from the rail track (or whatever it is called) that connects the hull with the deck. I have removed ...

Stern mount rudder..
Hi,
How does the stern mount rudder perform? Is there big differences from the original rudder? What about the outboard, I guess it has to be mounted not in the midle? Do you have any pictures?

In my previous boat I had propane stove and now I have pressurized alcohol. The propane is easier to light, it burns hotter and you can see the flame. Alcohol is more expensive (in Norway at least), more complicated lighting and does not burn so hot. But I chose alcohol from safety reasons. If you g...

I have now installed the cabin heater (wallas1300). I let the exhuast out in the cockpit (!), because the vent is there protected from wind and sea, and the wall is vertical. The smoke does not smell and is cooled well before the exit so it works fine. The cabin heater is mounted just below the hatc...

Cabin Heater
Hi sailors, I have a Chrysler 22, and I plan to install some heating as I will bring my little daughter (4 months) this summer and we are sailing far north (Norway). Have any of you installed a forced air cabin heater inside your Chryslers? The problem is finding a good location and where the exhaus...

I have a 9.9 Johnson, 82 model, long shaft. I wonder if the engine is mounted too low. With full throttle the engine is soaked in water. I have tried adjusting the angle of the engine, but no luck. What is your mounting height? I mean, how deep is your propeller in the water? I have about 10 inches ...

I have found one picture of a dodger for C22: http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/images/limey_bean2.jpg That dodger looks great! I want to build one :D . I found a kit on sailrite.com. But since I am living in Europe I will buy tubes (1" SS) here, and bend them myself, and only buy the kit for ...

Is this the case for the Chrysler 22 as well? It will make a nice place for some storage and for the echo sounder transducer. I thought this area was filled with some foam, to ensure floating in emergencies (crack in hull). In the C22, there is a hatch under the v-berth, in the middle of the berth f...

I have replaced the through-hull rudder fittings. And at that point it seems that the hull and the floor is bonded. I guess the flot is bonded, but not the rest of the liner. Wood is used several places, I guess that is the most critical issue. Like in the keel case. But if there is no damages, it s...

Inboard diesel
Hi,
I am considering installing an inboard diesel engine in my Chrysler C22. I wondered if any of you have any experience or knowledge about such a thing? I am considering a Yamnar or Volvo Penta 9-10 HP.
My outboard works fine, but when the waves are to big it gets flooded.
Best Regards,
Haakon

Hi, I have just returned after 14 days holidays in my Chrysler C22. At some time I got into quit rough weather. I have a Johnson 9.9 outboard with long shaft. I had soft deck below the windows. I filled it with polyester and epoxy. Be careful, it might flow into the cockpit. I drilled holes. I have also replaced the window. I put in new glasses made by Lexan, and put them on the outside. Lexan is very strong glass (used in bullet proff glasses), and the a...

The previous owner bought the boat with no keel. He made a keel himself, and attatched this to the boat. I have never been in a Chrysler with a standard swing keel or standard fixed keel. The keel on my boat is as long as a swing keel (it has a looong draft). She sails fine (5-6 knots), but heels ea...

I can take some photos later, but actually they won't show much. I can try to go a little more in detail. As I said, do as the how-to pages say. Then the next stages I did: 1. Clean up the area surrounding the rudder post with acetone or some other chemicals that removes wax. 2. Sand the same area s...

Dear Sailors, I have a 74 model C22. Does anyone of you have a hole for draining in the toe rail. I do not think filling her with water would prove anything. One idea might be to look for discoloring, the keel is made of iron, and any leaks would probably leave rusty traces (leaks are caused by iron dissapaering to rust). The seller might have cleaned this away, but then this might also be possi...
