If you removed the mast step consider installing a hinged mast step. It's an easy install, not very expensive and makes raising the mast a whole lot easier.

Sadly Peking now sits deteriorating at dock at NY's South Street Seaport. I spent some time working as a volunteer on her about 10 years ago.

Instead of "structural" I proabaly should say non load bearing when the mast is upright. I imagine the yard would use a crane to step the mast, but if they don't and step it with lines and pulleys there is the risk it could snap off again if they allow the mast to swing. Lucky you, not hav...

Tim, It looks welded to me, there's a line across the front side of the hook. the hook fits into a slot on the base of the mast. Once the mast is upright and settled onto the step the hook is not structural. However in raising the mast if the mast swings left or it can cause the hook to snap, it can...

We had to beach our C-22 once after the keel cable snapped and punched a hole in the trunk and 1/2 sunk her. Were able to have it towed up on a beach alongside the morning field at high tide. When the tide receded we made a temp repair of the hole, bailed about a ton of water out of the cabin. A com...

We always used a tow rope to ease it down the ramp, but it takes a set of brass ones to do it with a 38 foot fixed keel Beneteau :-)

I loves the audio... "Am I going off the side of the ramp like I think I am?"

We ran a line through a small block at the top of the mast. Attach one end via shakle to the end of the boom, make it off on a cleat on the mast.

An inexpensive fix for the spreader issue is to mount stanchion or flag pole bases on the mast, West marine has them, then use the old spreader pole and set with a screw.

Sorry I can't locate a picture. Hubby put something togtherfor transport and storage using scrap that was around, a peice of plywood about 18 inches wide 3 feet high with a notch cut on top to rest the mast. He screwed it to a 2 x 4, flat edge down, along the bottom edge wide enough to go laterally ...

We drilled a hole through the pin and stuck a long cotter through it, that keeps it from dropping into the boom.
