Thanks for the link, Terrence, it also seems like a nice, and well taken care of boat. I am really hoping this Alberg 30 will pan out, not that I am going to go offshore, but I'd like to have the option :)

Re: There is one for sale in NC

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1980-Halsey-Herreshoff-Design-Chrysler-Tmi-30-Osprey-With-2006-Beta-Marine-Engine-101823428 I called on this one and it sounds pretty good. It is owned by a gentleman in his 70s that is getting out of boating. It has been for sale for some time. Good luck! Seem lik...

I though about it, but the trailer looks home-made, and I am really hoping that the Alberg 30 will pan out. I spoke with a very, very good sailor friend of mine about it, and she told me Alberg 30's are good blue water boats.

Well, to me is the mystery, and the adventure of finding cool places, and secret anchorages, and stuff like that. Maybe I am being selfish, but that's just me.

Yeah, 6k for a project boat is a bit too much. I would love to help the guy, but the only way I could do it is taking the boat out of his hands, and take over the boat yard payments. The boat needs A LOT of love. I found an Alberg 30 locally, and the owner hopefully will give me a call tomorrow. I s...

Rudder fix

This was the first thing I fixed in my C-22. The original setup was leaking BADLY, so after returning home from almost sinking the boat, I took everything apart, and this is what I came up with: http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag21/Gustavo_Olgiati/Rudder/IMG_2165.jpg I did a pretty bad job reinf...

I know the feeling. My first boat was a Mac 23 that needed A LOT of love. I used that boat to learn how to patch and work with epoxy, and how a boat is constructed. Eventually I found Halve Mae, and she needed more work than I originally though. After a few months on the hard, she was back in the wa...

I just glassed a PVC pipe joining the hull to the deck, and never again had any problems, or a leak. I wish I had the pictures, I need to look them up. I'm going to the boat tomorrow, so I'll take the camera with me.

I found this boat on Craigslist. I need to take a better look at it. I can always walk away. He's asking 6K, which for a 30 foot sailboat might not be much, but I do have to think about the amount of work involved. The fun never ends...

Thanks for all the advice. I am planning on meeting the brother of the owner this weekend, and hopefully we can come up with a game plan. I guess the engine is the main thing. Old diesel is probably left in the system, so that needs to come out, the impeller most likely needs replacing, batteries ar...

O'Day 30

Well, I went to take a look at this O'Day 30 that's for sale locally, and I'd like to get some input from the captains with more experience buying bigger boats. I guess I could do a pros and cons list: Pro: Good price, the guy wants to sell it. He's been paying yard fees for the past 3 years. Con: T...

Hi Terrence! Yeah, buying a different boat doesn't mean leaving the group (specially now that I came back after a long absence). After all, sailing is sailing, no matter what the boat is :) Gus Gus If you do go to a 30' sailboat, Chrysler or not... I'll for sure find the time to look you up... hint....

That's a tall order for a first fiberglass job. I would start somewhere small, like reinforce something with a bit of epoxy and fiber just to get the hand of it. It is not difficult, but at first it can be very frustrating, specially when the epoxy won't set, and everything gets sticky. If you get t...

Back from delivering a Sabre 30!

We didn't quite make it all the day down to New Bern. Bad weather coming in, so the owner decided to leave the boat in a marina halfway in Belhaven. Nice boat, handles very nicely, and I was surprised how easy it is to dock a bigger and heavier boat. I'm not going to lie, I am seriously thinking in ...

it worked out at the end. I also use West System epoxy, but I had very good luck with Raka.

I had to fix the dang companionway sliding hatch rail that I broke the other day, and it's pretty solid now.
