my 26 is centred on the 43rd slot. tongue weight is on the light side, but I have the 285 lb. diesel/saildrive aft of that point. Make sure your trailer is level by using the right hitch height.

You can talk to Paul Gray @ Northern Sail Works http://www.northernsailworks.com in Winnipeg about the sail repairs.

Sounds like a great sail - remember- 'What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!

Nice floor! What are your ideas for a galley? I didn't like the lack of access to the diesel, so I am doing a galley on the port side up against the bulkhead. I lose half the table and some seating, but with the other table- half up it makes for a large prep area! I moved the fuel tank to the rear o...

you'll have to check with a Volvo parts source. I found a local source using the Volvo website. A google search will work too. You're going to have to yank the engine first. It's important to pinpoint the problem as you disassemble to ensure you fix the real cause. Better be sitting down when they g...

Now that you've determined low compression you'll want to take your time to check things out to make sure you fix the real problem. How low is the compression? No sense doing valves if it needs rings or piston. If ether has been used no telling what damage there is. The decompressor is closed? Remov...

tom, sounds like you haven't had any luck getting it started. again, you need 3 things to get it going: 1.fuel through the injector. take the injector to a shop and ask them to do a 'pop' test to check the spray pattern and release pressure- I've never been charged for this at any shop I've been to....

tom,

don't waste your time looking for glow plugs (or intake pre-heater)

cranking speed would appear to be critical, I had my starter overhauled and installed an underdrive pulley to solve my no-start problem as described previously.

The other lever you found may be the cold start lever. Anything I've read says that it is not required. It's apparently only used in cold climates!

I haven't looked to see what the difference is between an md5a & md 5b, but I have a 5a that has given me some usefull experience that I can pass on. How's the compression? I used a cheap gauge (friction fit) and got around 260 lbs. You gotta have adequate compression to make enough heat. Make s...

I've got a '78 with the Volvo MD5A (7 hp. single) through a Volvo Penta 110s saildrive. I haven't splashed the boat yet but do have the engine in good running shape. It does use up lots of interior room but I like the idea of the convenience of turning the key and motoring without leaving my positio...

I have the same problem. The sealant must be holding the frames in place. I was going to try again this spring either using some heat or pulling a piece of wire through the sealant to cut it. I am hoping to put new Lexan in but I'm worried the rubber seals are shot.
What have others done?

At that price it should come with a real nice trailer, IMHO. But, I suppose if you sat down with a pencil and paper and added all the gear and time spent on this or any other boat . . . .

I used one on my last boat and it worked great.

Excessive signal loss by this unit was mentioned above, but I used mine on Lake Superior and never had a problem with signal strength.

Sure is nice being able to use one antenna and lead wire!

best way through the deck (IMHO) is to use a bulkhead connector. That's the one that is female both ends with locking nuts on both sides to hold it in. Drill and epoxy an oversize hole first, then drill to connector size through the epoxy. Seal with 3M - absolutely leakproof and strong - no damaged ...

cracked rudder post casting on C26

I tried searching this topic with no success, so hear goes. . .My tiller to rudder post casting is cracked(see pic). I would assume that given its' rather weak design (although if someone hadn't over torqued the pinch bolt it would still be serviceable) some others may have had this happen and can g...

Not having splashed 'Messing About' yet, I don't know how much water it may (or not) take on, but the bilge was full of water when I picked it up in Feb. It took about a month to thaw and drain the water in the bilge as it must have been running back from the ballast - I took out about 24 litres of ...
