She looks rough, but if the keel, rigging, and sails are complete, I would jump on it. I think he is right that it needs more work than $. The interior can be cleaned up, and the bottom painted without a tremendous investment. Old boats are tons of work, but tons of fun as well. The photos of the tr...

If the 22 is the same as the 26, I find the position of the rope does not give much leverage. It wouldn't take much to keep it from moving at all. I would be interested to know if anyone finds a better way to route the ropes or any other idea. Just to make you feel better (maybe), I BACKED down the ...

Again, you are on the Chrysler owners forum. Of course you should buy it! And I can confidently give you that advice having no idea what the price is. As for the swing keel, I am not surprised it is crunchy from all of that growth. I question the wisdom of having a swing keel boat sit in salt water ...

Removable Steps

That sounds like a good method for making the steps removable. I was looking at foldaway steps I could build, or buy, and I just am not confident in their ability to hold up under the stresses of being used while under way. It is one thing to make a static step, and altogether different when you con...

Off Season Projects

I am still holding out hope for one more sail, but in all likelihood, my season is over here in Michigan. In the off season I am replacing some rotten plywood in the cabin sole, and recovering it (farewell nasty brown carpet.) I also need to do some more work on my trailer as I am not happy with it ...

First sail!

After a ridiculous amount of time, I finally launched my C26 today. Last week a friend and I welded some rollers onto the trailer. I was very concerned about being able to launch and retrieve it, but it all worked very well. She came off without having to get the truck too deep, and the rollers kept...

I will have to look at my boat this week to see if it is the same. I can't imagine much will be gained structurally. If our boats have managed 40 years without solid attachment there, I wouldn't worry about it. Fumes from the outboard does sound like a legitimate concern, in which case I would consi...

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info, and helpful folks here. I am a recently new owner of a Chrysler 26, so I don't have any specific info for your boat. As to buying parts, I doubt there is anywhere to buy direct replacements. What I would recommend is finding the original measurements (there a...

I've been scratching my head for a few weeks on where to put a water tank. The PO had a 5 gallon square bottom jug under the sink. I was really hoping I could fit a small tank under the rear birth, but it is such an odd shape no hard tank will fit, and I am not going to pay the crazy amount of money...

Congrats on the new boat. I bought a 26 from a charity auction last fall. I am thrilled with the purchase and can't wait to get her out on the water. Enjoy your new boat. There is lots of good info here.

Chapman Piloting

I am cleaning out my bookshelves, and have a copy of Chapman Piloting Seamanship & Small Boat Handling (60th edition, hardcover). I'll mail it to the first person that wants it. No charge. Just paying forward some goodwill to the boating community.

I have read a few sailing books this winter. I know I am late to the party, but I enjoyed Bumfuzzle. I found their take on their circumnavigation to be a bit refreshing from some of the "experts" on the popular sailing forums who seem to joy in telling everyone else why they can't or shoul...

From the link provided, #5 says: "Sailboats under power are considered powerboats." and #7 says "... Power vessels less than 12m may show a single all-round light in lieu of the separate masthead and stern lights." So if my sailboat is less than 12m is a single all around light o...

Not trying to argue, just trying to understand. Isn't a sailboat under power just like a powerboat? I know they have red green bow lights, and a 360 white light on a pole.

I have not wired my C-26 lights yet, so this is of interest to me. On my previous 22' sailboat, I had a mast top all around light. I used this as an anchor light. When I was under power at night, I switched off my stern light, and used the bow red-green, and the masthead all around light. Is this a ...

I am pretty sure the mast is a Dwyer DM-500. I see they have a hinge available that works with that mast, so I will likely pick one up. With mast raising in mind, does it make sense to drill a corresponding hole in the base of this mast to use the boom as the gin pole, or should I look for some alte...

I will get a picture of the sail slugs tomorrow. The deck has a soft spot beside the mast step, no doubt due to the cracking, and water intrusion. I will plan on digging into and repairing that in the spring. The compression post looks fine inside. Would there be obvious signs if the post had failed...

Here are some pictures of the mast step. The stainless cover was on top of the step. Ok, thanks, that explains the gin pole fitting hole I could not find. The mast base has obviously been reworked. It has a stainless steel "box" over the mast step, had a 3/4 piece of rotten plywood on that, and then the mast sat on top. In trying to lower it, the screws pulled right out. I...

I got her home without incident. I would rather sail through a gale, than tow a boat through Toronto ever again, but that is a story for another day. Other than needing new paint, the boat is in great shape. The deck looks good, and has obviously been redone in recent years. Inside is musty, but cer...

New C-26 owner

Greetings Chrysler sailors! I started sailing 2 years ago with the purchase of a Macgregor V222. It was a great boat to learn on, but was getting small for our family of 6. We cruised the North Channel of Lake Huron for two weeks this summer. It was a blast, but cemented the need for a bigger boat. ...
