Re: Privateer

Bill, I have no experience with the privateer but I checked in the document section where all the Chrysler manuals are. The Privateer Manuel is there and has quite a bit of information along with some photos that should hep with proper rigging . As far as parts go you will likely just have to look a...

Re: Gotta replace the broken keel cable

Gary, I did a search in the keel section and found the information you were needing, one member removed a shackle from a c26 . These are his measurements. 3” long 11/16 opening 5/16 pin Another member gave a 3“ length for their shackle no other information. Another member indicated they were going t...

Re: Could some one help please

I just realized you had a post awhile back. I’ve reread it and maybe this will help. If the rigging fit on the deck before you started the repair it should still fit your rework as long as you haven’t made major changes. The turnbuckles have quite a bit of adjustment.I recently reread the rigging in...

Re: Easiest cockpit floor fix?

Congratulations ? You must be getting close to finishing the major repairs , have you been able to lower the keel ? It is safe to sail with the keel up even in high wind. Several years ago Guilliume Cote ( not sure of spelling ) sailed from Quebec to Cuba and the Bahamas in his 26 by the off shore r...

Re: Changing from Outboard motor to Inboard on 26

BigDawgz Check out skipper Dans electric motor conversion. He used the lower end off an outboard as a sail drive then installed an electric motor on the top end. You could do the same thing and leave the power head on which would make a very economical in board sail drive conversion. The cooling and...

Re: Frozen in place swing keel!

Gary, A previous forum member had to repair his keel trunk ( a major repair ) and one of the things he did was put a hole in the top of the trunk. The top is above the waterline and if you cut a 3” hole in the top of the trunk you might be able to hammer the keel down then either patch the hole or p...

Re: Gotta replace the broken keel cable

Gary , Just search cable length on the forum and you will find the answer. The cable length is 9-1/2 ft and the designated cable dia. is 1/4” but years of experience has shown that safety margin indicates 3/8” stainless steel should be used. Be sure to use a stainless crimp ( 2ea) fitting and thimbl...

Hi Gary, A guy with a YouTube channel ,Sam Holmes did that on a cape dory 28 he sailed across the Atlantic this year. He bought an old cape dory 28 and did a refit. You can watch the whole refiton you tube. You will end up painting the deck and the hull. It’s a lot of work but is probably the strong...

Re: Mid boom sheeting - how critical is the traveler location?

Gary I’ve mounted a traveler with about a 3” rise on the existing pads, I have no problems with access to the cabin . Using the existing location of the blocks keeps running rigging in the location the boom is designed to sustain the loads put on it . A previous member, Windward , raced and sailed t...

Gary
When you put the collar back on be sure to put anti seize compound on the threads . The compound will help prevent corrosion and dissimilar metal action. Good luck with the rudder

Re: Cabin floor repair what to do???

Gary, You might want to decide on a different floor finish , if dirt gets into the cabin a sand non skid finish may be difficult to sweep clean. I’ve never had one in a cabin but dirt on my deck usually takes a rinse with a bucket of water to clean it . The po of my 26 put down rubber mats that can ...

4 years ago I built a teardrop camper ( from scratch ) with a galley in the back hatch. Of course the wife insisted on a shower with hot water and a sink in said galley. Re: Vertical play in the rudder post?

The rudder play is not Normal. There should be a 2” spacer between the mushroom bearing and the rudder. You can replace the spacer with pvc pipe if it is missing. If the spacer is there shift the collar under the tiller head down to take up the slop. The original design has mushroom bearings at the ...

Re: Broken Keel Cable on Mooring

Jsa The easiest way to fix the problem is to change the cable while in the water. Make a new cable and dive on it.Even if you have to find someone with diving gear it will be a lot easier than jacking it up on land. You can loop a rope under the hull to both winches and raise it that way. Search the...
