Re: New Year's Day Ordeal

Yeah, these were the lines that kept the boat attached to the mooring system. The larger line was used around the deck cleat on the bow and the smaller line was for the bow eye. I'm now questioning if the safety line is necessary or if it may have caused the problem.

New Year's Day Ordeal

So, 2018 decided to throw the wife and me a bit of a curveball. Just as we were arriving to my family's annual New Year's Day Pig Pickin'... the smell of slow cooked pig, collards, and black-eyed peas wafting through the air, I got the dreaded "Your boat's loose" text. Long story, shorted....

Ahh, I love Oriental. This is actually Lake Waccamaw, which is kind of in between Wilmington and Whiteville. It's one of NC's largest fresh-water lakes. It's a nature-lovers paradise and due to it's proximity to the coast often has great winds. I couldn't pass up a 70 degree day in November with 10-...

Very cool!!! I've only had my Chrysler for a little over a year, but one thing that I've noticed is how the rudder control line can slip through the clam cleat under sail. As the rudder is pushed upward by the force of the water, the weather helm increases. It seems as though this would prevent that...

I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm pretty new to the Chrysler. Others may disagree, but I've always thought of Marine-Tex as a temporary fix. I think of it as something to get the job done until the job can be done right. It claims to be structural, but it is just epoxy and filler. I wouldn't...

Hi there! I'm pretty new to the Chrysler, but I'll share my 2 cents and set-up if it helps. To answer your question, I think running the sheet through the cheek block on the coaming is necessary. This is especially true in high wind. I would think you need something behind the winch to gain some pur...

mainsheet blocks

Has anyone replaced their mainsheet blocks? I'd like to replace mine soon, as one of the pulleys on the lower block has failed. It works fine until the wind picks up, but then it becomes hard to sheet in. Any recommendations as to brand/size? I'm slowly upgrading parts from original. Next will be th...

What kind of controls are you referring to? Is there a way to bring the forward, reverse, and throttle into the cockpit? I'm using a two stroke Evinrude from the 80's. I hate having to lean over the stern rail to change gear. It becomes really tricky when docking, especially in wind or current. ... ...

My boat came with a 6hp Evinrude (two-stroke). It moves me around just fine, and it has gotten me home when the winds were too strong to sail. Truth be told, I rarely even throttle it up all the way as it will start to push the stern under and flood the bilge/stern compartment. Still, I don't think ...

I may be interested in some of your sails (main and small jib). Do you know the size of the jib? I have a 130 but am looking for something smaller. I'd be very interested if that is the case. I may be interested in the main, as I recently ripped mine in a breeze. Is it the original main? Does it hav...

Thanks for the reply! I may consider getting a smaller jib. The boat heels quite a bit in the 10-12 range with the 130. It's not enough wind to make me want to reef, but it would be nice to keep the boat a little flatter. I've been learning a lot and loving every minute of sailing the 22 over the la...

I'm just curious as to what size headsail you fly on your C22 most often. I have a 130% jib and a 150% genoa that came with the boat when I purchased her.

When things go RIIIP

Well... I may be taking a short, unintentional hiatus from the Chrysler due to a ripped main. I was taking some people out from the club when the wind suddenly built to white-capping conditions on the lake. I decided to put in a reef since we had a ten year old on board. Shortly after reefing we wer...

How much sail? Different Wind Conditions

I was on the boat over the weekend to enjoy some unusually warm (upper 70's) NC February days. The wind really picked up Sunday and I struggled to find the right balance of sail area. Winds began to build to 10-15mph or more and were probably gusting to 25 or more. That was what the local weather st...
