I have also seen topping lifts with a block and cam cleat mounted on the rear of the boom. That allows you to adjust the topping lift right from the cockpit, and no extra lines on the mast.

It's a lot more water proof than the origional round 4 prong thing with the rotted boots

The track up the front of the mast is for the whisker or spinnaker pole. It allows you to adjust the angle of the pole for the size of head sail your flying. I would think safety/tempered glass would work as long as you use a enough beding to allow for flex. After all port holes on ships used glass long before polycarbonate came along. The glass may get spendy also having to have rounded corners cut and polished. On the C&C's I sail on Superior they ...

Compass on a C22

After installing a 2" sounder and a mount for the portable GPS on the bulkhead next to the companionway I relized there is just not a lot of flat area to mount a decent sized compass :?
What do other C22 owners use for a compass and how mounted?

I don't have backing plates on mine either, But then there is not a lot of pressure on them either.
On a 22 foot you can usally adjust the sheets by hand and seldom need to use the winches.

My daughter redid the hatch boards for me last week.
Sanded them with #320 and them applied teak oil.
The out sides will need another application, but it was a vast improvement!
Picked up the teak oil at Menards for about $6 less that at a marine supply.

I have used range markers when chartering in Florida.
I'll bet if it was not for a couple of us inland sailers joking about using our retracable keels as depth sounders on another string you would have needed to work harder for this weeks subject
