Chrysler 22 for sale in SC, again
The C22 in Spartenburg is back for sale again. I'm guess the payment didn't work out. Angelboatministries is a non-profit that I've delt with, but they don't joke around about buyers making payments. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976-Chrysler-C-22-22-Used-Sailboat-Trailer-for-Sale-South-Carolina-/...

Welcome to the family. I'm in the process of stripping and painting my keel, as I replace the keel pin brackets. It is a pain, but if you only have to do it every 30 years it works out. Here's what I'd check: 1) Standing rigging, make sure it has all of the stays and are in good shape, someone recen...

Own an angle grinder? Technically I own two, at least until I take the 7 inch back to sears, still new in the box. I was able to mount a 7 inch cutoff wheel on my 4 1/2 inch grinder, with the guard removed. Was a little paranoid, well out of the way, with eye protection, and a first aid knowing daug...

Okay, maybe it's the engineer in me coming out, but both of my old brackets have the same bolt pattern, and using the old drafting kit again, it seems that the pattern is 8 holes on a 2 and 5/8 diameter. Picture a compass rose with the 4 points, four holes drilled on the four points and then holes d...

Well, the bastard is finally out. I used a 7 inch cutoff wheel, mounted on a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder. I had tried several sawsall blades, so for giggles i tried it and yes it works at slow speed. My sawsall is single speed, so I pulsed the trigger to keep the blade speed down and cool. I plan to gl...

My old keel pin is stuck
OK, got the boat in the air, the trailer out from under it, a sled built of 2x6 and ready to go. First I tried to just cut it as several of you have mentioned, but my pin is stainless and it dulled three blades. Second went inside to take the port cap off, took an hour, a drill and a chisel. The old...

Some say.... The bolt circle is not standard, but when I look at pictures of people's nasty rusty ones they look like a standard 6 holes on a set radius. When I get mine out, assuming there is enough left to measure, I'll post an update. I was supprised to see such small bolts holding the old bracke...

I made a drawing for the Keel Pin Brackets
So, was laying under the boat Sunday to finish sanding the very bottom of the hull to paint, and though wow, the brackets on my 32yo boat look great!, too great. So I sanded a bit, and a bit more, and found out the looked great because they were bondo. Once I dug the bondo out you could see the pin ...

Electrical Parts and Wiring
Doing the new system on my C22 I've read through dozens of sites and thought I'd share a few: Genuinedealz has a store on eBay, with a technical section that talks about voltage drops and what size of wire you need, they have bundled (25foot, 50 foot, 100 foot) lengths. I've used them for several pu...

Alrighty then..... I propose, that we get together on a 3 day weekend and make some dust. or sparks, or whatever. SC, NC, GA, FL are all within a few hours drive. Location is a biggie, and room for several people to bring boats and room to work on them. For better or worse I can cover that stuff her...

A lot of times I'll bid a grand on a boat like that just to give a low ball chance. I'm looking for a duece and a half M35A2 or so, and do the same there. I'm still sore from painting my C22, think of how much more work painting a C26 would be! But I'm back to the lake on April 29th to see how this ...

I used 60 on the random orbital. I was supprised only needed three or four of the velcro on pieces to remove all of the old bottom paint. The paint in most areas was like sanding chalk, didn't clog the paper, and 60 is big enough not to clog much anyway. My newer 8 hole sander didn't make as big of ...

If you look at the documents section, there is a page about the pop top lock. Yes the piece on the mast is from the factory. The piece on the mast locks holds it up and forward and the four legs go slightly over center, there are holes in each leg to insert a pin and lock the legs straight. Even wit...

Painting the boat
Got my bottom paint finished today. Will need an hour with the massage therapist to get the kinks out but it came out decent. Warning! This is how I lifted my boat to paint the hull, try this method at your own risk! Your trailer frame may not be the same and this may not be safe for you, it may hav...

I thought my C22 had dings in it, but I swear when I sanded it it looks like mold marks, that were prob filled with something, but after 30 years of sanding and painting needed attention. The high gloss paint also makes every dip and bump show. of course, it's me being critical, it looks so much bet...

My boat is a trailer rider and I'm painting as we speak. I sanded the dozen or so layers of three different colors. The last layer was years old that was some sort of anti fouling stuff. I sanded and used bondo to fill any dings, then sanded again, and wiped down then painted with Valspar enamel. I ...

I'm a member of a few different types of things. The Diesel VW guys have GTG (get togethers) where they meet and work on cars. There are regional meetings and I went to one in Chapin SC last year and there were 62 cars. Different people offered different specialties, electrical, wheel bearings, brak...

They picked 3 team captains, and ...

I've slept since then. but I would swear that West Marine has that stuff in their print catalog. I remember seeing thinking crap it's a spring, how could that break? Now we know. EDIT: Actually it was bass pro shops. Maybe I've been reading too many catalogs? http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-8-...
