Old O'Day 22's had this type of boom roller reefing as well. Check with the mid 70's (=/- '74) O'Day22 foot boat owners to get a different view of how these systems work. If you set up your boat on jiffy / slab reefing you'll be happier for the change though.

I towed several 22 footers with my toyota 4x4 on a worn out V6. I went where I wanted and never had an issue with the smaller truck. Both the Catlina and the Oday were weighed within the 3000 to 3200 pound range ready to sail with a motor and trailer. The thing about towing capacity is that it's a n...

I don't think tha majority of the forward hatches really needs a seal or gasket. Water should never run uphill and over the deck molding under any normal conditions I am aware of. None of my boats have ever had a fordeck hatch seal and water (at least from there) just hasn't been an issue. My curren...

Drill the heads off with a large drill biit. I like 3/8 to 1/2 inch bits for almost everything. Larger bits will take the head off and leave the hole untouched, push the headless body through the hole to remove. Rivits like a good fit, don't bugger up the original hole and bob's your uncle. Rivits a...

First, before anythng else is done, get the blown up bearings AND races off the axle. I had a blow up like this on my O'day trailer and the inner race was siezed to the axle so bad it required replacement of the axle. So, pull both sides to get all the numbers and make sure you have clear spindle on...

I use an 80 lb thrust 24 volt on my 26. It will push me as far as I need to go. When setting up batteries I would buy two and wire them in parallel to gain twice the range over a single. You want to buy them at the same time so they age together and thier charging characteristics stay close. When ru...

I was able to get it by the foot from www.catalinadirect.com a while back. Looks is if they sell kits now so I would contact them about window seals by the foot. They also sell sealer for the gasket.

P.S. there are places that you can get the same gasket material new. Catalina 25's use the same gasket material and it's still available. When installing, make certain the joint in the gasket is at the top of the frame. If it's on the bottom it will always leak no matter how new or good the seal is.

For the great lakes the Apostle Islands (Northern WI L. Superior) are very popular for small boats. Also can be very remote as most of the islands are uninhabited. Next up would be Green Bay Nice if you want a combination of big water and bay sailing. Do a loop around the Wisconsin peninsula crossin...

The ebay boat is showing some dimpling from the rollers but I think it's more from the missing keel rollers that are supposed to support the weight. The side rollers only hold the boat upright on a proper trailer and will not cause dimples. I have a roller trailer on my 26 and no dimples in spite of...

I looked at how I sail and got rid of the stantions completely. Then I plugged the holes and was done with the leaks (at least from there :)). I feel it better to clip in via harness or not go out in dirty weather to begin with. For lots of sailors, of course not all, the stantions are more trouble ...

I use regular plywood for repairs. It has the same glue as marine ply and since most of the repairs are buried in fiberglass they don't show. A good repair should be sealed tight so it shouldn't get wet. The thing to keep in mind IMHO, is that things like the plywood sole on these boats is more than...

Stepping the mast on C26
The top forstay terminal on my rig is a fork pinned onto the masthead. As such it won't tolerate mugh side to side movement as the fork is aligned with the boat's centerline. The first few times I was setting the stick I noticed the foil was putting a lot of pressure on the masthead fitting and fork...

Stepping Mast - dealing with roller furlers
I have a C-26 with a CDI Flexible furler. Actually your boat sounds like it's set up exactly like mine. Here is the "cheap-n-easy" solution I use when stepping. Get a short bungee with the standard hooks on the ends. Wrap the bungee around the foil and mast close to but below the spreaders...
