Hello and welcome. The keel cable should be 316 stainless steel at a diameter of 3/16's with swadged ends. (although I think some of them came with rope as oem). A couple of things could be a problem for you, the keel pocket could fouled and blocking the keel, there's also an anti sway pin in the ke...

Going to sail the choctawhatchee bay around Fort Walton beach and may head west on the ICW. Just loaded the boat with everything but the kitchen sink and she's hooked to the truck and ready to go. It's been a busy week, installed a new VHF with antenna, rewired the mast, installed new spreader brack...

First off, welcome, On th C22 the interior is a linner that is set into place before the top deck is set onto the hull. In some of the voids of the cabin liner is flotation foam, i e, under the V birth and along the starboard settee, that's what the chrome wilkie buttons are all about. IMHO the wate...

Dinghy towing
Getting everything ready for a trip to Fla. with the C22. My question is this, have any of you guys pulled an inflatable dinghy behind a C22. I would like to have some real insight as to how much of a negative effect it has on performance. The dinghy we plan to take is a 6 foot inflateable with simi...

Cool! That's how leak checks are preformed on pressurized aircraft after some types of repair or replacements. Never thought about doing the same on a boat. You would have to move a lot of air in order to over come the the cockpit lockers and hatches that are not sealed all that tight to start with,...

Hey partydog, Great to hear from you and thank you so much for your generous offer. Staying on a C22 is a bit like tent camping. So we'll be in need of access to water and power from time to time. Would like to split the time between the hook and dock. Free docking is always good :D , but I don't mi...

Thanks for the repies. Starting to think about the Cedar key area in North Fla. (not to be confused with the great lakes ) as it may still be cooler up north than I'd want to deal with. Partydog, you close to there? Any good words about cruising the area? Jeff, Thanks. I'll check with you this...

Great lakes in the spring.
Looks like I have a couple of months on my hands. I have always wanted to do some sailing on the lakes. What would you guys in the area recommend for a couple of weeks of cruising on a C22? And is this a good time to go? I live in East Tn, so the drive wouldn't be too bad. Would like to do the keys,...

I can't help but to wonder if you could bore a hole using a hole saw about the same size as a wet vac hose down low in a couple of places along the length of the starboard settee. Then insert the hose of a wet vac and let it run for a period of time. You would need to remove some of the wilkie butto...

Seems someone special ordered the mast or did the ol' switch-a-roo on ya. I went thru the same thing a while back tring to get some numbers to work with. My problem was the in reverse, my sail measured under the posted diamentions by a foot and a half, so the search was on. I was able to measure a s...

Alan, I like the way you have rigged the jib to clear the railings. I'm going to see if I have enough room to do the same. Looks like it makes life easy on those expensive sails. I just noticed you have a pop top boat. Do you have the inclosure that can be used with it? A friend of mine has a pop to...

I'd at least look at honing the cylinders and installing new rings while you are in there. As long as the crank looks good you could install new main and rod bearings if you wanted, but the rings would freshen her up. You should be able to knock that out in an afternoon. I've seen power heads on eba...

First, Keep the bearing buddies, second, remove and inspect the hub, axle, and bearings once a year, third, Always, Always use heat and a good penatrate to remove stuck metal parts, bigger hammers only break things. You can use a paint removing heat gun on the area around the hub, and don't be afrai...

tgentry, you give me a call and I'll take my boat too. You will pass right by my house on your way down. My father and his wife stay on marathon key for 6 to 8 weeks every winter so we could have a base to operate from. To heck with the price of gas, It's the things we DON'T do that we always regret...

Welcome Pa_sailor, I had a C20 for a short period of time and I think I can help you with your questions. 1) the boom is held up in place by two devices, on the aft end, a topping lift. This can be a peice of cable attatched to the aft stay with a clip, or a cable attatched to the mast head. If the ...
