Swing Keel cushion on hull underside
I'm ready to install my restored keel and remember there was something glued to the underside to cushion the keel against the underside when fully raised. Can anyone refresh my memory and/or let me know what you're using?
Thanks,....Bob

As EmergencyExit says, appears to be missing an inner spacer. I wouldn't put much tension on those now, and even would say don't sail as is. You should remove both spreaders. From the one good side you may be able to insert a steel drift pin or something similarly hard and bang out the dent on the b...

Harken 22mm track and car
I like your setup. Like you, I wanted to get rid of the flimsy original track and pin traveler on my C22, but wanted to keep it simple. It doesn't need to move around all that much. I picked up the Harken 22mm track and pin car and really happy with it. The track has some flex to it so it'll adapt t...

Halyard organizer
This is a generic setup for running halyards aft. This is not my boat, but I have a similar setup using Harken swivel blocks and Spinlock organizer with Spinlock rope clutches. I'll try to post an image of mine soon.

Paint Strippers
Forum looks really quiet these days so I thought I'd post about my latest restoration work on the hull. I went back and forth as we all do on what to buy for strippers. They all claim to work miracles, right? Then you read reviews, and well, keep looking. I'm restoring my boat in a rental storage sp...

Beautiful job Bob...looks nicer than mine. I also used the coal tar epoxy. I did not thin and only put on two coats, but it seemed to turn out well. Looking forward to see the completion. Bill,...thanks. Glad to see someone else going with the coal tar epoxy. The stuff was so thick I decided it was...

Keel design
dumb question : is the keel one solid piece of forged steel? Doesn't look like cast iron. How did it get so pitted? thanks The C22 keel is referred to as a 'shell casting'. It's cast iron over a stainless steel inner plate. A portion of the stainless plate is exposed where the lift cable attaches. ...

C22 Keel Restoration - Part 1
Wanted to share my keel restoration pix as I get ready to install her. As you can see, I had the usual deep pitting and scaring. Sherwin Williams Macropoxy 646 for Bottom Paint
Wanting a non anti-fouling bottom paint and considering this product. The Interlux VC Performance has been mentioned here and looks great, but only comes in white. Researching whether it can be tinted doesn't seem like an option. That said, I came across SW Macropoxy 646 Fast Cure Epoxy. Looks very ...

That doesn't sound right for coal tar epoxy. It does have some stretch (elongation as the manufacturer calls it) which makes it superior to other epoxies for durability. Rustoleum strongly recommends, per their application page, that when applying two coats, each coat (thinned with Xylene) and appli...

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Dwyer or RigRite. Here's a sample of those. https://www.dwyermast.com/images/dh2112hsm.jpg They don't fit flush enough for me. I wanted something that would hinge down flush and have a few accessory holes. These are kinda what I'm talking about. I copied this style a...

There are lots of yacht clubs probably in your area that offer classroom and hands-on training. It's a great way to learn with other novices, so no peer pressure. The Basic Keelboat Manual is usually provided with the course. You can buy it lots of places though. Very good reference to have handy. W...

Re: Mast Hinge (rplcmnt for hook)
Sounds like a mast hinge would make hoisting the mast much easier. So wondering if there's a retail source where a mast hinge for a C22 can be purchased versus having to have one fabricated? Or if not, would like any design specs or direction on where to find. My email: b918fvc@sbcglobal.net Apprec...

Keel Pin Sleeve
Just wondering what others have done about the pin sleeve when restoring the keel. Have you had any luck driving it out, or is drilling the best approach. On mine, appears to be stainless steel and it's pressed in pretty tight. When I do get it out, I'm going with a Alloy 932 (SAE 660) Bronze Sleeve...

For your engineering consideration
Yes, yet another keel pin, bracket, engineering topic. I've got my keel out, doing the usual stuff on that. When ready to install, I'll make my own stainless bracket per all the great advice seen here. Looking ahead to that day, I'm really concerned about the factory design for holding 900 pounds of...
