mast up, back stay OK (??), how much tension?

Yesterday I got the mast up on my C-22; the set up required some thought, but pretty easy once it was all rigged and ready to go. The back stay seems all right. It's not floppy. But how much tension? The shrouds are quite tight, which seems proper to me. However, the forestay and backstay have some ...

That's an interesting idea, and I have to say that it has never occurred to me. I suppose it could be possible. I will have to do some measuring. I did find in the original brochure that the backstay adjuster was optional equipment, as it says in this document: http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/ima...

Thanks. That's some help.

But the real question is where on the boat to fasten the line; what do I fasten it to? I'd rather not have to add hardware to the hull. Perhaps I can rig something to one of the aft chainplates, a la illustration 3.

I wonder what Chrysler's intention was?

Backstay adjuster on C-22

Hello again. I wrote about this backstay issue about a year ago, but never got the boat on the water. This year, though, I've rented a slip and have time to get it on the water, next week, I hope. Here's my issue. I'm feeling pretty confused right this minute. The split rear stay apparently needs to...

OK, thanks for that. That may solve at least one problem. I'll be happy to get the right equipment on there.

Repair issues on my C-22: backstay and rudder

Hi all. I'm trying to get my boat ready for some late season sailing (work and travel have delayed me), and have two major issues. Back stay: The back stay appears to be too long, and the guy I bought the boat from (and apparently the owner before him) had the split stay adjusted to length by tying ...

The mast came down!! And I mean that in a good way. It was a long day with a lot of obstacles associated with the boat and with other things. But I got the boat across the lake and into the marina, and started on the process of getting the mast down. It must have taken about 90 minutes. The actual l...

Hi there. Sorry I haven't been around to discuss after posting the question--too busy. Well tomorrow, the 29th, is the day the mast comes down. We'll be on a tight schedule to make our appointment for the take out. We're using the gin pole method. I will get chain and carabiners, though I'm hoping w...

Both of you, thank you very much for the info. This is helpful. I think I'll put my wife on the block and I'll guide the mast. I'll let you know if I have more questions.

Lowering mast on a c-22 for first time. Need advice!!

Hi All. It's been awhile since my last post, and unfortunately, I have not been able to sail my C-22 since I took possession on Labor Day weekend, though I've been on it a few times. No wind, or very poor conditions, thick smoke from from nearby forest fires, rain, work, etc. And now it's time to ge...

Thanks OutnBacker for that detailed reply. I hadn't thought much about its beaminess (or design), but I realize that in general it does provide more stability. It seems that the boat was designed for some good sailing in a wide variety of conditions while still being inexpensive, etc. Calculating th...

Thanks for the information on the chop. She sounds like a trooper, a great pocket cruiser. The seller told me the keel pin was in good shape, but I will check it carefully before stressing it with rougher water.

Thanks! I like the Great White look you got goin' there. It doesn't need much counterbalance? In what kind of conditions? I read somewhere that while initially tender, it firms up at around 25 degrees of heel. True? On Monterey Bay, 10-15 knots is probably the norm, though getting up to 20 is not un...

I grew up in Santa Cruz and have family and friends in various parts of the Bay Area. So, I am familiar with the bay and peninsula but I do live in the sierra nevada now. I have to say, though, that I haven't been in Sunnyvale for years, so Blue Cube isn't sounding familiar.

Thanks for the welcome.

That's an interesting sling system you have for you boat, mcrandall. I was just thinking today about how to remove boat from trailer.

New C-22 owner

Hello all. I will take possession of a C-22 on Labor Day weekend. I've enjoyed this forum and website quite a bit as I was researching the boat and deciding what I wanted to do. This seems like a much loved model of boat. Thanks for all your help. There's a wealth of experience and knowledge here. T...
