Ok Darin, I'll give some of that a shot. Rule of thumb that I was taught for jibsheets. 1.5xLOAx2=sheet length. ie: 1.5x22x2=66 some like them longer. I bought 100' and split it. The rail thing is tricky also: most are imboard of lifelines. I can remember my father switching them inboard/outboard on...

I've found that venting the companionway boards and a box fan in the v-berth works great. In my experience, the solar vents last 2 years on average. Most cut them into the fore hatch or all hatches.

I gotta know, why all the interest in painting? Masts at supposed to be aluminum. Is it just for the look? I've been told that you have a much better chance for electrolysis. Most black masts that came with boats with black toe rail were anodized I believe. As what stated, you need a very good etchi...

I think maybe there is a bit more to the equation. Ie: ballast, displacement, wetted surface. The amount of weight that makes a boat unstable on the topsides, versus the amount of persons down below. My plate on my stern says 6. This, I am told, usually equates to 200 lbs per person. Add 750lbs for ...

TRAILERS!

After a rough day with my boat I needed some levity. I got my boat in the water, this was good. The way my trailer is set-up is BAD! I got very irritated with myself because I did not work on it more. It was windy, spitting rain and generally a pain in the butt. On the good side: The trailer and boa...

She looks to be a sturdy, comfortable craft. Don't forget hydration is key. I find in lower latitudes such as your current one, they tend to have vast amounts of frozen drinks. I find these hydrate and cool well. Enjoy Captain and sail on.

Paul and Lyle are correct as usual. The only advice I have is install a topping lift. I've seen too many ambulances waiting by the dock after a regattas because of poles. Spin. Or wisk. Lots of chunks out of decks too.

I assure you Alan that I was not intending that to be a scare tactic, however it was stressed to me by the people who know, that it is essential to the long life of the sail. I felt the same way when I worked on mine last year. Did I get it all off?

My only two cents is that every sailmaker, (Yes I know three),I have ever talked to says the same thing, Chlorine bleach will break down sails in a heartbeat, while peroxide bleach (OXY Clean) breaks them down 1000 times more slowly. They all say RINSE, RINSE, RINSE. It is imperitive to get all of i...

We lost two veteran sailing Michiganders.
The sea is like a devilish mistress, she is the most beautiful thing that you've had the pleasure of enjoying. She is also the evil woman that will take your soul.
Our hearts go out to the families of these sailors from Saginaw.
