parting out '76 C22

I'm parting out this boat (no title) to refurbish a '79 pop-top that a tree fell on while it was on the trailer. Details in the General Discussion section.

Parting out '76 C22

I'm using the '76 (no title) as a parts boat to refurbish a '79 pop-top. I'm using the boom, sails, cabin hatch guides, bow pulpit, table, and mainsheet tackle. I have available the ports (oval), winches (stiff), lifeline stanchions and lines (type that does not bolt to toerail) stern pulpit (not th...

Mast raising bridle

Has anyone used the bridle shown in the archived instruction book? If so, does anyone have the dimensions handy? It looks like a good idea, and any way to reduce the drama of stepping the mast is worthwhile.

Rotten wood

If I remember correctly, the C22 deck was cored with a honeycomb material, not wood. Early ones used plywood backing under deck attachments, and later ones used solid fiberglass. If that is the case, then you are looking at cutting out a relatively small isolated piece of damaged deck as opposed to ...

Thanks for the info. Now that I think about it, every bass boat out on the bay uses these same control units. Oh well, always enjoy the conversations.

Outboard motor controls

Does anyone out there use the cockpit-mounted controls? My 1979 C22 has them on the port side, while my 1976 C22 parts boat has them on the starboard side. The C22 owners manual on file doesn't mention them at all, so I need to know how to rig them, operate them, and if it's even worthwhile to bothe...

Siren project

I've seen a few of those problems here in NE Wisconsin. It usually happens when a boat sits uncovered in the winter, and leaves and ice plug up the cockpit drains. All the accumulated weight is borne by the hull on the bunks, and it just caves in. There is probably some level of laminate damage on t...

Re: Boat Sick

Yeah....I feel your pain. I now have seven sailboats, including two C22's. There was one on EBay in NYC this fall that didn't make the starting bid of $300. There was no trailer, and it was being sold for marina storage charges. The rudder was in pieces, but it didn't look particularly bad - plus it...

C22 pop-top

OUTSTANDING!! Thanks for the pics - it looks so simple even I can do it. I've inventoried all the bits and pieces that came with the boat, and those rails are nowhere to be found. There is so little teak on the C22 anyway that I'm leaning toward having them made from tough plastic. Only 4 more month...

I can't post pics because the camera is in NYC with my wife. We have some weather moving into WI, so I have to get it tarped this weekend, and won't see it again 'til April. The issue is the sliding hatch, not the whole pop-top. I can't operate that anyway because it's blocked by the stowed mast. On...

C22 Pop-Top

I just acquired another C22 (the MN boat listed in the "for sale" forum), and need some guidance on the hardware for the pop-top. The sliding hatch is not connected in any way. There is one smooth plastic strip(broken) on one side of the pop-up base, but it looks like those would just be l...

New C22

Congratulations!! Now I don't feel quite so odd having two C22's.... I just bought the one in MN that is in the forum " for sale" section. I had considered it last July, but finally sprung for it a couple of weeks ago. This one had the mast get away from the PO, and the mast step is cracke...

I have one that I doubt if I will ever use, but I am In Green Bay, WI. You would also need the track that it runs on to slide into the quarterberth. I haven't really looked at taking it out, but will delve into it if you are interested. Larry

Oops. After re-reading your post, I think you were looking for the word "chrysler" after all, not the stylized "C" or "C22". If you want, I can take a couple of pics and measure it. Mine is the block letters, although the photo gallery has a pic of "Macdiver Straig...

My 1976 just says "chrysler" in light blue over a light blue boot stripe. No logo at all. I expect they may have used different variations over the years and possibly with different color combinations.

That C22 for sale on CL in milwaukee WI for $650 is some kind of scam or bad joke. I emailed at least half a dozen times offering to show up with cash, and never got a response. Be careful buying used ones, as there are some of the Schaeffer units out there that require a wire sewn into the luff of ...

cockpit tarp

Oops...forgot to mention that I always support the horizontal mast at the mast step so it doesn't bow under the weight of the snow. Fenders work great for this. This may not be a problem on the C22 mast, but I do it for my Sovereign 17, American Fiberglass 17 2+2, and Guppy13.

We get a bit of snow here in WI too. I tarp mine with old-fashioned canvas tarp, supported by the mast and 4' 1x4's. I got some seat belts from a junkyard, and use a 6" piece to connect 2 1x4's end-to-end with about a 4" gap. They are draped over the mast to form an inverted V resting on t...

Thanks, but I found the spreaders. They had been squirelled away under the V-berth. Still missing the pivot bolt for the rudder, but it looks like it's just a 1/2" SS about 4" long. What is a good product to clean dirt, mold, and tree sap off the translucent hatch panels? I also have a hol...

New C22 owner

Hi folks, I just pulled a 1976 C22 home to Green Bay, WI yesterday. Aside from missing the mast spreaders, it looks to be pretty complete and in good shape. It has been sitting for years, so the decks and rigging are beyond filthy. The rudder blade is in the cabin, so I hope all the pieces are there...
