My forestay had a spare hole so I put a shackle there and run a small line from the cockpit, through a fairlead to the shackle, then through the jib stays to the head of the sail. I can loosen the halyard and bring the jib down quickly. What I like about this set up is the capability to collapse the...

Tongue Hitch
So according to a previous post we're running around 3500 lb plus change with the boat & trailer.
I want to replace my 2" tongue on my trailer because it's rusty. It's class II, and that is what would fit with no mods - rated for 3500 lb. Do I use it or go for an upgrade?

I doubt there will be a change in performance. Raising the jib slightly puts the least effective part (the top) marginally higher where the winds should be slightly accellerated. There would also be a slight loss at the lower end where the effect of the deck as a wing end plate is lost and air can e...

Broken rudder head replacement
Cracked the head. Making new ones out of 2" X 2" aluminum bar stock. Here are pictures of the process so far. <div style="width:480px;text-align:right;"><embed width="480" height="360" src="http://static.pbsrc.com/flash/rss_slideshow.swf" flashvars=&...

Wiring the upper shroud to the spreader
The base for my spreaders has never been right. Ordered new from Dwyer but my old ones had a cap that captured the shroud. Thses have a notch & holes. The West Marine rep described the wiring procedure but before I put the covers on... is this even close??? <a href="http://s814.photobucket....

West Marine has one supposedly sized for our boats that is a 4:1 and runs around $100. May not be a bad deal in that I tried to build one and the Harken fiddle block with two sheeves ran over $100. In the mean time it is possible, since I'm merely trying to get this boat to float and then head off i...

Boom Vang for the 22
First / last trip out for the 22 and I became aware that my boom vang does not have a means of stopping the line. A single sheeve with a becket and a double sheeve using 5/16" line. I went through the on line manual just now and - there is no boom vang called out. Apparently this was not a stoc...

C-22 Spreaders
My boat came with a set of standing rigging all coiled up and zip tied. A couple airfoil spreaders were included, but no bounting brackets. I canabalized some Dwyer brackets but am not thrilled with the result. It looks like what I want are the medium size Dwyer spreaders due to the lenngth I need, ...

Bummer - cracked rudder head
Got enough 2" square aluminum to make 4 rudder heads for $27. Began drilling pilot holes for the 1 1/2" post holes this evening. Asked the guy at the aluminum shop what they used to lubricate their saws when they cut aluminum - deisel fuel! Turns out I can bore the hole with a simple hole ...

Bummer
Memorial day sail with a sailing club I will join. Middle of the lake the rudder became unresponsive. Dropped sails and motored back - tiller head cracked. Looks like I overtightened the pinch nut making a fulcrum point at the 90 degree location. Now, where to find a block of 2 X 2 X 4" aluminu...

Using racheting straps on the mast/gin pole
OK, I've been using the great idea of racheting straps in place of the rope to connect the gin pole & mast for stepping and unstepping. Love it but I've always had to stop a couple times because when stepping the mast the straps going to the mast get tighter and the straps going to the gin pole ...
