Well it is a sailboat, full power is more like 80 to 100 amps. I have never run it that high you are just pushing water at that point. By the way, I can unbolt the lower unit with the four lower bolts and replace it if I need to. The fixed part never needs to come out.

I welded an aluminum plate to the lower unit. This is sealed from the platform in the post above. Also it is sealed around the lower unit itself with butyl tape for sealing windshields. I have never had a leak.

Do not put the rudder all the way up. Just high enough that it is higher than the keel. Also you can at the same time leave the motor ricked up also. Steer with the rudder not the motor. If you are so shallow that the rudder will hit all the way down you should not be going very fast.

I plan on making some modifications also. I am going to put the shrouds on new chain plates attached to the outside of the hull and go one size larger on the shrouds. I already have an electric inboard and closed up the outboard motor well. I may also do some bracing on the tunnel for the swing keel.

If you go to an auto parts store that caters to body shops they have a drill attachment that will take it off without chemicals. Or use acetone, aliphatic naptha, methyl ethyl ketone, toluene, isopropyl alcohol and other solvents.

You want to plumb it so it goes in the basin, in the top of the basin. That way you can see when it pumps. There are not many fixed keel 26's so it will be hard to see any common problems. If the water was coming over the bow, it could be a leak in the chain locker.

Why aren't you installing a bilge pump? There should be room behind the ladder. I just cut a nice size hole in the floor. Buy a really small pump with a float, plumb it to the sink so that it drains into the sink basin so you know when it is running.

Check the tube that the cable runs through. Sometimes people just put a garden hose on it. Your best bet is to take the table support off and check it out. I have heard that the trunk itself is not very stout, although I have no problems with mine.
