This year was the start of a Chrysler story for the wife and me. We got a 78' 22 after searching around for a while. We ended up finding what we were looking for and she was in our hands around the end of June. The previous owner was a great guy to deal with. He had built a new trailer for the boat,...

Gooseneck Reefing Hook

Does anyone have any recommendations for installing a reefing hook to the goose neck bolt. I'm pretty sure I'm looking to go for the universal type, but I am uncertain of the correct size. The boats on the water right now, so I'm not able to get a measurement. Has anyone installed one? Any help/advi...

Is the sail for a C22? My sails are made by Vector and we'd like to replace our main as it is pretty blown. Wasn't Vector the sailmaker for the 22? If they fit the 22 I may be interested.

Honestly, right now it's just tied to it with bowlines. I know this reduces the strength of the line by aprox 40%, but it was kind of a temporary fix at the time. I noticed some serious fraying on the lower backstay in the crimping and needed it replaced that day so I could still participate in a ra...

Video C22

It's nothing exciting, but here is a short video I made last weekend while my wife and I were out sailing in light wind. It's my first attempt at a Youtube video. I figure I can never get enough videos of sailboats I'm interested in, so I might as well make one myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Well, I've never sailed a Man O' War but I have done a lot of beach launching on a Sunfish and Hobie 16... both freshwater and salt. Both the Sunfish and Hobie have rudders that can pivot upwards. I would imagine there is a way for yours to as well. It looks like a boat that is designed to be beache...

Thanks everyone. My situation sounds similar to Capt. Bondo's. Upon further inspection the starboard side does have more flex and I can also feel/hear it outer lining contact the inner. So, it's sounds like possible delam but perhaps it's nothing to be concerned of for now. I'll certainly keep an ey...

It's above the waterline. The boat itself is water tight, or so it seems so far. It was dry as a bone after riding out TS Hermine a couple of weekends ago.

That would be my guess as well, but I was hoping it just may be a common thing. I pushed around on the bows of some of the other boats around the club and several of them also had some flex in this area. I'll admit I'd rather it be rock solid though. Is there a preferred "fix" for this, ot...

Hull Flex Near Bow

The hull of my C22 has a bit of flex on both sides of the boat near the bow. Maybe only a foot or so of flexy area. It feels to be relatively equal on each side. Is this by design or is this a sign of delamination? The rest of the hull is solid.

Spreader Bracket / Backstay Replacement

Does anyone know where I could order a new Spreader Bracket for my C22? I noticed the starboard spreader was a little loose at the mast and after looking at it more closely it appears that someone made an improvised "fix" for the bracket. However, it does not seem secure to me. It can move...

Thanks EE,

I'm heading to the lake tomorrow, so I'll take the prop off and take a look. I've seen a couple of videos on how to replace the shear pin.

Luckily, there is still resistance when moving the gears and I can still hear a clunk.

It's a late 80's Evinrude 6hp two stroke.

I'm willing to give it a try. My problem is that is it ran completely free of the mast. It's not stuck at the top. I've got to run it through the sheave again. I tried to walk out a halyard into shallow water and roll the boat, but it became quickly apparent that wasn't going to work. It did make fo...

Improvisation is Key

My wife and I had a fun day on the water earlier in light 4-5 kt winds. We were very anxious to return to our vessel after learning of some pretty severe storms that passed through the area two evenings ago. We were even more anxious because we had just secured her to a new mooring that we had insta...

Hello everyone. I'm sorry to keep bombarding the forum with posts, but if you guys are like the Hobie group I know you're willing to help out a newbie such as myself. May I ask, how much did installing a roller furler set you back? Ballpark? I also really like the idea of running the halyards to the cockpit. I've only tried her solo once and went out with the main only. I couldn't figure out how I would get the jib up solo. When I let go of the tiller she rounds ...

New owner with a piggy back question for JChrysler and the rest. Do most of you put the keel all the way down, with the cable slack? I read that the boat performs best when the keel is 60 degrees to the waterline, but that may not be accurate. I've been lowering mine all the way, and then raising it...

Hello Everyone. My wife and I have just purchased a 78' C22. We got her on the water today, but didn't get to take advantage of any wind. I've sailed a Hobie 16 for a little over a decade, but this is my first venture into the "big" boat world. I'm sure there are some things that will tran...
