phew! I feeling better now! I didn't realize that the shoe was two pieces and the pin was captive between the halves.
Guess I'll just chip some rust off and splash on some more bottom coat!- good for another 30 years!

C26 keel shoe-not for the faint of heart!

Am in for a major repair? What does your shoe look like? Mine has an obvious seam running fore-aft down the middle. It's also offset slightly to port, I'm guessing it has cracked in the past and the crack filled with caulking. What do you think? I've looked at the photos of the stainless one that 'M...

I removed the bilge plate the other day and found: 1. water - well, if it wasn't -25 it would be water, to about 3" below cabin sole 2. the copper pipe is set up as a bilge drain for a suction pump. It runs forward on the bottom of the bilge to the rear of the ballast pour point. Whoever placed...

Sounds like the way to go. Once I get the boat off I'll be addressing that as well as moving the axles aft to get some tongue weight as well.
Probably a good thing the ice doesn't go out until May around here - I've got lots to do before then!

trailering the C26

My trailer is set up with the full weight of the boat (C26 swing) resting on the keel by way of a 6' long plank on the trailer. More specifically the swing keel as it hangs down below the fixed portion about 2". There are four pads also, keeping the boat steady. Is this set-up o.k.? Or should t...

Yeah, I bought it in Bloomington, Indiana after finding it on craigslist. I was seriously considering several Southcoast 26s before finding this boat - of which I'm glad!! Bringing it across was real easy - I just needed the titles and bills of sale for the boat and trailer. I had to pay provincial ...

Forget it, I found the listing. Sounds like it's got gear, unlike mine, which is good. Four stroke kicker is definitely a bonus! No interior pics - why are there never interior pics on those listings ??? Looks it might have original finish, too - better original than bad re-finish!

As a new C26 owner myself, let me be the first to welcome you! Towing with a six? That's a Ford for you! Looking forward to some pics - is the E-bay listing still available?

you want pics? you got pics! It's embarrassing to show the boat in this cond. but when it's 40 below you can't do much cleaning! With the diesel located where it is and the galley where it is, there is no access to the port side aft. We're thinking of moving the galley forward on the port side next ...

I'd have to use a mirror to look as the diesel is sitting just behind the bulkhead, wouldn't a tiny video camera be handy?? That reminds about a medical procedure I had recently . . . .

So no room for a submersable pump? Did yours have a small pipe sticking out? Looks like there could be quite a bit of water there and no way to get it out - unless that's what the 3/8" pipe was for? I worry about ice damage if there's water there. That area aft of the winch that you opened up w...

My C26 has the OEM diesel/saildrive unit. For the record it's a Volvo MD5A diesel connected to a Volvo/Penta 110s saildrive. The diesel is rated @ 7.5 h.p. with total weight of engine and drive given as 288#. The fuel tank is about 45 litre (~12 U.S. gallon) mounted on port side of engine directly b...

bilge access plate?

In looking around my new (to me !) C26 I see a stainless steel plate (~5"x8") with a short piece of 3/8" metal pipe sticking out of it. This plate is located directly below the bottom companionway step on the centerline of the boat and in front of a bulkhead (?). Any idea what I might...

sometimes it helps being a little crazy-I don't have to worry about the consequences of my actions, at least not before something goes wrong! Just pulled out the sails and she has a number! It's #490! Original Vector main is serviceable with no previous repairs (current small luff tear) and Vector h...

it's official ! she's bought, paid for, picked up and sitting in the driveway! now for the hard part . . . The '91 Grand Marquis dragged her 1300 brakeless(trailer), tail wagging(120 lb. tongue weight) miles from Indiana to her new home port !! I haven't even hardly looked inside but can see 3 sails...

I don't know if it was on e-bay or not, I saw it on cl with no pics. The seller doesn't know much about it so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I can see it has a jib furler, but have no idea what sails it has. I'm picking it up in Indiana.

anyone recognize this C26???

I thought while I make plans to pick this boat up, I would throw a pic out there and see if anyone recognizes it. If you know this boat personally I would like to hear some info and any other comments would be welcome, too!!

New member says hi and asks a question

Hi, I just put a deposit on a '78 C26. Not much info available from the seller as he's never sailed it and I won't see it until I pick it up - a new adventure begins! No idea what sails it has, although pics show a furler, he says it has an engine - I can see an aftermarket outboard bracket on the t...
