Mark, welcome aboard. You must have been peeking at my drafts of what I wanted to do to lift my C-22. I based my design on a homemade cradle that was featured in Good Old Boat a few years ago. Only difference between yours and my plan is that I have 2x8's crossed and inlet into the 6x6 uprights beca...

The article on the C-22 was ok, but the really interesting one to me was the next story, fires on board aircraft carriers. Granted, it's an old story, but still interesting reading.

I'm going with tacking a little here and there, based upon dim recollections of Ted Brewer's book Understanding Boat Design. After a certain point of heel you are increasing wetted surface possibly shortening waterline length, both of which have an adverse effect on speed.

ceek , when I stumbled into my C-22 find on e-Bay I now owned a boat in a marina in FL and no way to get it home to PA. So I started searching e-Bay and Craigslist for trailers that looked like they could handle it. Luck was with me again as I stumbled upon a trailer in IN for only $400 "buy-i...

Great article Jeff. She sure looks good. They did a nice job of providing a variety of photo settings.

I was looking at that heeled over pic on page two of the article. Do you do that sort of thing often? I'd have to change my Depends after that!

I'll second what Pete said, and for the same reason. Now I just have to figure out how much ballast to put in the v-berth to offset one very large man and a small outboard.

Ah HA! Finally one I can answer. 1 - True. 2 - False. I believe the correct term is flaking, but I thought that was in circles, not figure 8's. 3 - False. The coaming was traditionally a 4" - 6" board which surrounded the cockpit of old wooden daysailers, acting kind of like a splash guard...

figure out how to connect the life lines to the two pulpits and quite a few other things. The current issue of Good Old Boat has an article about someone who recycled their standing rigging to become new lifelines for their boat. They simply lashed the lines to the pulpit and there is a picture of ...

I asked the same question for my LS-16 a while back. I found exactly what I was looking for in the paper catalog from Defender. It's also on their website, here I've been doing a lot of checking and comparing between Defender and West Marine this month. So far, Defender appears to be routinely 10% t...

In my simple, untrained mind the term "loose foot" brings to mind an image of a main that is only joined to the boom at the tack and the clew. Having seen the result of mediocre gusts (didn't even tip us over) on the jib of my LS-16 and how badly it bellied out when not hanked to the fores...

I can't speak to the dial-up problems personally (I use cable) but I was "reprimanded" on another forum once for posting full size (3002 x 2000 pixel, 2.5Mb) images. Actually, reprimanded is a mild term. There was actually a "public outcry" of sufficient volume to make me believe...
