I think I will print this off and keep it on the boat so, when I try to make excuses's as to why these types of trips can't be made on these boats I can then be reminded and inspired. Thanks for sharing your voyage! :D Perhaps a few of us east coasters could put together an armada and go in force. N...

Hey Paul, After I cleaned my boat out and before I was able to seal up the windows and other deck fittings I used a tarp to keep out the elements. It worked real well, even with the life lines in place. I just used a small enough tarp to cover the hatch and windows (port lights). It kept me from hav...

I have had some time off from work and I put the 22 in a slip for a month. I had her out numrous times, she's a fine sailing boat. Took a couple of my work buddys out a couple of days ago. It was a blowing, cold, (well for us, 44 deg) and over cast, and was the first time for one of them, we keep he...

Good for you :D . Got up to 73 Deg here today and I spent the afternoon on the lake. Good winds and clear sky toward the end of the day. I did spend the first over nigher on mine a couple of days ago but 80 deg, afraid not, had to take the small heater and slide deep into the sleeping bag. Still, it...

I think you would get knocked down so fast in a stiff wind that it would make your head spin. It is unbelievable the difference in boat stability with keel up verses keel down just at the dock. Try it some time. In reguard to the weight it is true it is all the same. The real difference is where the...

I have given the jet ski idea a thought or two myself. I don't know if you have operated a jet ski before but, the real problem is fouling the intake. It only takes a couple of leaves or a small stick to make the unit completly cavitate. Then your not going anywhere. We use to have to turn the ski o...

I think you are seeing a relflection of the hull stripe on the water, now Watauga lake is a beautifull, clean and clear lake but, I don't think it is that clear. I know the rudder was all the way down and cleated in place because I could see it at the dock prior to setting out. I know exactly what y...

Even if you could get the keel off, tring to manuver it around on some type of crate would be a real bear, and if it broke loose during the move... well, ouch!! I don't think anything in the container would survive. Another thing to deal with is getting the boat in and out of the container. ...

Depending on the weight of the sail cloth the big genoa could be what they use to call a drifter. Don't know if that term is still used. At any rate you can still use the whisker on a down wind to keep the genoa to one side. Makes it easer to sail wing to wing, main on one side and the genoa on the ...

Sounds like a good time, as we trailered home Sunday night from the lake the last thing I saw of the lake was a shot of Windward under full canvas headed toward a cove for the night. Jeff had mentioned something about a book and a bottle of wine. We are almost to the point of doing some over ...

On the water at last
The first mate and I got the 22 out yesterday for her first splash. Was a blue sky day and winds were 10-15. We saw 5.9 mph on the hand held gps on a broad reach. The only thing I forgot was the camera. Jeff came out to greet us on Windward and it was great to meet him. Will be going back to the lak...

Hey Keywest, I'm a little usefull around boats and such and own a few thousand $ worth of tools as I also work on airplanes for a living. Northern tool or tractor supply has all the trailer parts you need. All you need to do is have a couple leaf spring brackets added and you can buy all the rest off the shelf. You can pick and choose according to weight loads. I should think if you are going to run tandem you could use a 2500# axle x...

I just resealed the toe rail to deck joint on my 22. You would'nt believe the voids that had developed over the past 30 plus years. That's a direct route to the interior via the deck to hull joint. It was very easy to do and only took a couple of hours to complete. I used a 90 deg. scribe and a shar...
