Some Generic sailing questions

Not specific to chryslers: How do you measure the amount of line needed for a jib sheet? What size and type of line do you use? Do the jib sheets go outside (over?) the safety lines/rails or inside/under them, or does that depend on the boat's point of sail? And how do you keep the bow pulpit rail f...

Captian Ron movie fans

One of our favorite "sailing" movies is "Captian Ron". Whenever I do anything boat related correctly, I'll thow out the "Learned that in rehab, boss" quote. So yesterday Jesse, our 13 year old son and my "crew" for the Pen Kalet boat move, asked how big the bo...

Bruce,

You never learn anything when you do it perfect the first time. Docking is one of the most exciting/stressful/challenging exercises you will do on your boat. Now you know what it feels/looks like to do it wrong, and you will be able to quickly recognize a bad docking situation.

The water pump is at the top of the "Foot"? You have to remove the foot to change the impeller and water pump housing.

I would have worn out the blankets on the trip from Kemah, lucky for me that Pen Kalet's name needs repainting.

Used a combination of seaclear on laptop and gps/google maps on the andriod. The phone was just a backup. You have to have a backup, computer overheat/reboots at a critical navagation point can be scary.

There is indeed an app on both android and iphones. Brother Darrell has the iPhone app.

Thanks, it was taken about 2 miles from our slip, right off the causeway to Honeymoon Island while we were anchored.
Saw Honeymoon Island and knew you were in Dunedin without looking at your sig. "Ya Never Know" got pirated just a little north of there at Crystal Beach.

Online Cruising Guides

Here are a couple that I am using:

Active Captain. Interactive charts/maps, reviews, seems up to date, with one exception.

Salty South East: more like a current situations message board, doesn't extend into the western gulf, tho.

My Big brother bought this one in Kemah Texas. Her name is "Pen Kalet" (it's a French name, like the builder, and his wife must have named her) The picture is her going back into the water in Kemah after a bottom job, new cutlass bearing and new prop shaft. http://www.partydogentertainment...

I ran out of juice on a 40 lb trolling motor with two deep cell batteries moving it out of the canals in Cape Coral, but that was on my 26.

And headwinds and crosswinds cause issues.
