Very nice indeed Mariner !!! What size are the screws...Thread size that is ??? Haven't looked at mine yet. If I remember correctly, the originals were wood screws that were about 1-3/4" to 2" and the new screws are 1/4"x20x2". Alan, as for the "next guy" it's only a j...

Oh yeah, I'm liking that a lot!! Now where did you get the inserts? Stainless? I'm thinking of running a jumper off one of these somehow so I can run a cable down to the keel (lightning protection). The inserts are stainless and they came from a friend who has a machine shop in PA, however they are...

Threaded Inserts

Thought I would start a new post since the "plasteak" one ended up with threaded inserts. http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad276/marinerc22/IMG_1518.jpg attached are a few photos of the mast step that was redone with the inserts. I first drilled down and deep into the step and filled wit...

Plasteak

Took a drive over to the plasteak plant near Akron today. I've been thinking about replacing the hatch slides with a combo handrail made from plasteak. The folks there were very nice and gave me a bunch of scraps to practice on! I'll post pics of the end result. I started with removing the wood rail...

Not a bad idea contacting Interlux, manufacturers have been known to help sort out this type of thing and also provide new product at no cost to the customer.....I would try to state your case with both the manufacturer and the shop that sold you the paints.

I'm really sorry the painting did not work out as intended, I for one would never dream of doing a paint job like this myself. However I want to congratulate you for having the gumption not only to attack this project but also to post your results. Hats off to you! Best of luck on the next go round!...

Update

So, I finally got around to getting the boat over my house to work on her, I had stainless steel backing plates made for all of the deck hardware , removed all of the deck hardware , cleaned all of the existing through hull holes by using one size drill bit larger and then filled all of the holes wi...

I have not been very impressed with any of the connectors that I have seen, since I also will have a coax cable for the radio, I have decided to use a through hull compression fitting called scan strut, you can then just make one hole. I will then make the connection inside either with blade connect...

Fiberglass

So what happens if you soak wool with west system resin without hardener? Will the wood become more "structural" what I'm thinking is that some of the wood that is embedded for backing may benefit if I can soak it with resin? Any thoughts on this? I'm going to take piece of scrap, drill a ...

I'm thinking that I will be able to access the nuts with socket extensions and removal of the plywood, the plywood is kinda shot and I will probably remove the foam.
