1971 Bristol 22 Caravel
As many of you know, I purchased a 1971 Bristol 22 in northern Ohio for $800 late last December, with the intent of making necessary repairs and keeping her on the NC coast. Thus far, that's gone... slowly. Demands of home, work and sometimes actually sailing have taken precedence. The revised plan ...

The How To section of the Chrysler Sailing Association site at http://www.chryslersailing.com links to http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html , which explains the structure and how to determine year. That page in turn links to the CG database that EE mentioned. I know of no other source of man...

I installed an anchor roller on Windward's bow and built a rode locker in the forepeak, but that might be more trouble than you're looking to go to. My stern hook is a Danforth knock-off that lives in a pushpit-mounted anchor bracket. I made a bag out of Sunbrella to hold the rode, and it is hung of...

Glad I do not have to make that call. In so many cases, storm surge brings boats above the pilings then down on them hard. My preference would be to find a canal somewhere and tie in dead-center. I like to think my anchoring skills are good, but would not want to have to prove them (and my ground ta...

Tracking Irene: Wundermap
Came across a cool visualization tool at WeatherUnderground. It displays not only the current hurricane track forecast, but also wind radius, various model tracks and storm surge forecast. It can be a little slow to refresh, so be patient after you change options on the right-hand side control panel...

Greg, I may have an inflatable dinghy you can borrow. It's not fancy, would benefit from a solid floor insert of some sort and definitely is an oars-only affair, but it would get you safely from ship to shore if you want to beach comb or not drop the bux on transient slippage when there's an anchora...

@Terrence, I'll let you know as/if plans materialize. I've been eying the 70 mile trip from Beaufort down to the Masonboro Inlet, which would be a darn sight less stressful than the run into and back out of Bogue Inlet we did a couple of years back... just depends on weather and where else I try to ...

Greg, Tight for time just now, but I'll drop you a note later. I'll be on the Sound -- and outside some -- for several weeks in October, the 5th year I've dragged Windward down for the trip. Manteo is pretty cool. It's a long haul from Manteo to Ocracoke (about 55-60 miles), and unless the breeze is...

It was great to see Terrence again, and the soldering was fun in an abstract way. Not looking forward to the drywall work, though. I feel bad about having Banshi come all that way and only see other Chryslers from a distance. Everyone, be sure you PM me if you'll be in our area so I can give you my ...

So that WAS you in the beautiful red boat! I mentioned to my wife that some bastard had a lot of nerve having paint that was so much prettier than what Windward's has become (Hmmm. Sail or paint? Sail or paint? Oh! I know that one....) Memorial Day weekend involved significant home carnage, ripping ...

A recap of info previously posted: Refer to http://www.sv-windward.com/tech/happy_hooker.pdf for a map of the lake. Watauga Lake is about 13 miles from the west end to northeast end, with another couple of branches to the southeast that will take you back several more miles. Most of the land is Nati...

Windward's had her winches submerged several times. Never shipped water in the cockpit, because the bottom board's pinned in whenever we're underway, and if it's at all questionable the second and sometimes top board is also in place, with the companionway hatch securely latched. Most pulse-quickeni...

I can only grab one extra day off that week, and have some other commitments, but want to spend as much time sailing with the crew as I can. I've had time to do virtually nothing to Windward, or to the Bristol, so you all will be able to make fun of my necrotic varnish ;) Probably a good idea to get...
