Having seen EE's blog post about the compression post being rotten at the bottom, I was wondering what others are using to replace the wooden post in their boats?

So I've been cleaning and disassembling Maverick and have found that compression post in my boat is solid spruce I believe, but I was wondering about making a new post out steel that will not rot.

A former Chrysler sailor with handle Sauerleigh made this for the base of his compression post. So yes, you can replace the wooden post. This one is stainless.

I just went with wood again, rebuilt similar to the original, but glassed it all over including tops and bottoms. Probably outlast me ! 8)
