Keel Pin Sleeve

Post by C22Bob »

Just wondering what others have done about the pin sleeve when restoring the keel. Have you had any luck driving it out, or is drilling the best approach. On mine, appears to be stainless steel and it's pressed in pretty tight. When I do get it out, I'm going with a Alloy 932 (SAE 660) Bronze Sleeve Bearing. Here's the link at McMaster Carr for the sleeve.

Also, has anyone noticed the section where the cable attaches is stainless steel? Seems that Chrysler had the keel shell molded using cast iron with stainless steel core. I'm guessing the SS core runs the full length up to the sleeve area. Pretty impressive!
