Keel cable thru-hull fitting - re-bedding maintenance PART 1

Post by Careyr »

I am sooooooooo glad that while I was doing my keel project I did some reading on the site. Some guy posted pics of changing out his keel cable and it occurred to me I should check mine, now that I have a nice, tight keel.
It was all pretty ugly and what started as pulling down the cable (had it stuffed up out of the way while re-fitting the keel) to check the saddle clamps, ended up being clamps, cable and a loose bronze thru-hull.
I put a little comment in each of the photos, so need not be wordy here.
Just want to mention one thing that is more recent than the photos; I was able to purchase the stainless saddles and cable locally, but no luck with a stainless thimble. I was buying some items from Duckworks and while I was on the site, I found and purchased a really nice stainless, closed end thimble.
It just arrived and it is heavier than any thimbles I've yet seen. This one should last for years.
Here is the link to the photos: if you get there, on the upper left select
"back to album". That seemed to me the best way to view each photo.
I am a real novice with getting pictures on line; hope it works.
