keel stabilizer

Post by fatcity »

I have a leak at the keel stabilizer. I replaced the keel pin with great effort. At the time the keel was out I foolishly did not deal with with the steel fitting and pipe/through hull into the keel house. Any tips or direction in repair without cutting the pin again?

For the C22's that have it (very late 70s, and 1980 model), it's nothing more than common plumbing parts available at your local hardware store. Galvanized steel pipe flange, nipple, and end cap, with a Nylon rod inserted. If your leak is at where the flange mounts to the trunk wall, then it's a worst case scenario. Are the 4 bolts that hold it in bad shape? If not, and you can cleanly separate the flange, clean the area and get all new parts at Lowes, use some 3M 5200 sealant and attach your new stabilizer..
If it's just the nipple or end cap, you may be able to remove those and replace as needed.Good luck!
