Not to highjack Scott's post, but I have a similar question so to speak, my intent is to lake sail with the wish to keep the weight on my motor mount as low as feasible. With no tides or river currents to deal with how small could feasible be for a C26? I know that the winds on a lake are at times as formidable as anywhere, but I'm talking about feasible for the other 80 to 90% of the time.

Depends on how fast you want to go under motor. I can attest that lacking wind/tide/current, you can push a 26 with just a 40# trolling motor.

Terrence I used a 4hp 4 stroke and with a 7 pitch 3 blade prop it pushed about 6 knots and be careful of motor being too light as mine sits bow low with water tank and head (porta potti) forward.

Terrence, If you are interested I have two motors up for sale, A 7.5 merc. and an 8.0 johnyrude with a charging output. Both run good and are extra long shafts with pull starts. The merc was on my 22 when you and I took her out and the johnyrude came on my O'Day. Give me a shout next time you are over this way. Jeff

Jeff, we will be coming back up to the cabin Columbus Day Oct 10th for a week, may like a look at the 7.5... only drawback a pull start maybe too much of a pain on a C26. The stern on a 1980 C26 is not as high as earlier models so it may be doable... it's worth a look. P.M. me on the particulars.

The Maude Kay came with a older 10hp 4 stroke Honda with electric start and remote controls. I don't think I would want anything less than a 10 horse for a boat the weight of the C26 even on an inland lake.

Pull start on my 1980 C-26 is working but when I can afford it I can get elect. start kit. You have to have one that starts easy as you are pulling up on pull start.

EE moved up and down Bayou Bonfouca with a 4.5 Hp Merc for her entire time there..not very fast mind you but we got there..

The 8 hp johnyrude pushed my 5100lb Oday with fixed keel well beyond hull speed at 3/4 throttle , no problem. Now, I don't think I would want to push against an in coming tide with a head wind either, but more than efficient on an inland lake.
