I have a c26 and I am ready to rebuild the motor mount and I want to know your feelings. Which motor. what size, how many mods will I need to make for this motor. I will be using this boat for going to the bahamas next winter and the great lakes this summer. thanks for your time and input.

I think most of us with C26's have 9.9hp motors, usually with a big, low pitch prop.

The stock motor mount generally won't let you tilt a newer four stroke outboard, the power heads are bigger than the old two strokes.

Some here have done really nice rebuilds of the motor mount to keep it stock looking while extending it a few inches farther from the boat to gain tilted motor clearance.

Mine is a simple stainless steel addition coupled with some cutting away of the old mount where it interfered.

You can see it here:

After the original Chrysler motor expired and a bad experience with a used motor I bit the bullet and bought a new Suzuki 9.9, extra long shaft, high thrust, power tilt, with remote. It's been a great motor so far.

If you're buying new I recommend checking out:

These belong to Cumberland Watersports. I have no financial interest, but I'm a very happy customer.

The Evinrude E-TEC has a lower power head but the smallest is 15 HP I have a 15 Johnson 2 stroke for the reason of tilting.

If you can find either the Johnson/Evonrude 9.9 or 15 2 stroke enging get it for your C-26. you can do a cable control to the cockpit. I would think a 15 for crossing the gulf stream would be nice and with just a jetting change the 9.9 becomes a 15.
